****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Rooting a phone is like allowing you access to the admin account on a windows phone, which allows you and programs you run access to the inner workings of the phone so you can delete bloat, backup your programs and settings and other bits and pieces. A ROM is firmware either stock or modifed by someone to add features.

How do you people charge your galaxy s2? from 0 - 100% each time or what? because im unsure which is the best way?

For peace of mind I have used the phone from full charge down to 0% flat(not draining the battery on purpose just normal use) twice to calibrate the battery - so it can accurately tell that 0% is at 0% and not at 5% for example.

That wouldn't calibrate the battery just by draining it.

Are you sure i heard that if you do this it will decrease the life of the battery causing the charge to not be held as long as charging from say 10% to 80% etc?

Have a read up on Li-ion batteries then stop worrying about it. It will last more than the 2 years most people own their phones.

Just leave your phone on the carpet or soft floor then the viabrate won't wake you.

If the buzz wakes you then I'm afraid I can't help you. My SG has done it for 10 months and never woken up once

I leave my phone on and put it face down on the carpet, always wake up with a text and/or multiple emails that all have vibrate notification and never wake me.

Face down seems to soften the vibrate more than face up.

Is there text reflow on this dolphin browser or is it just not working correctly for me? Can anyone suggest a browser that does it well? I for it handy for when reading forums.

Thanks also to the person who suggested SwiftKey.... They had a beta available so I gave that a go, and definately an improvement. Lack of directional arrows is a bit annoying though as that we blu thing you are expected to us to select words is a tricky little bugger.

This Swype thing on the other hand can be a bit head melting. I guess it might be ok with a lot of use, is anyone here using it a their main keyboard? typed that last bit with it, took forever....

Try Opera Mobile, reflows text liike a charm.

And I would highly recommend Thumb keyboard as its got the cursors, it also goes into a split keyboard when in landscape which is far easier.

i bought this phone (sim free) but i have a problem. i can't call out/receive and can't send/receive sms.

i've tryed a orange sim and a t-mobile sim.but with the t-mobile sim i can connect to the mobile internet..

any ideas

It does seem a bit weird at first, but once you get used to it, it's a joy to use and pretty damn speedy!

Also, if you use a lot of "non-standard" words (which Swype then tries to autocorrect into something entirely different), type them in manually, then Swype will remember them, so next time you use that word, it should autocorrect it properly!

Well it would, as the vibrations are generated by the speaker and on the S2 that's mounted on the back.

It's even easier on a big phone like this. Especially if you have big thumbs like me! On the plus side, it will soon become second-nature - and then using a normal keyboard will be like a chore. And an even bigger plus, I used to get pains in my texting hand from the tap tap tap of my thumb - which I no longer get.

Swype would be better if it supported the option to change long press delay. In fact every keyboard SHOULD have that option but the only ones I know of now that do are Thumb Keyboard and Cyanogen's Gingerbread keyboard mod.
