****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Random question guys.. (and gals)

Ive noticed my "android OS" eats up most of the power of the battery. I think this is because of my yahoo email app thats on the phone. As i get a lot of emails for work etc. On XDA forums someone said in a thread...

Just wondering if there was a way of setting up how often yahoo email syncs to save the battery? Going off 50-80 times a day is not helping my battery life much :D

I just use K-9 email for my yahoo account and gmail/hotmail and you can set that up to sync at different times.

Need to start charging this baby. Salesgirl told me not to exceed charging beyond full, about 10 hours, ie, not overnight, or it'll reduce battery life.

There is code that stops this from happening. Don't listen to the Salesgirl. :)

Make sure you haven't got USB debugging on easy. Go to settings > Applications > Development. Kies will not work if USB debugging is on, as I won't ever use Kies I have USB debugging on so I can mount the phone as it were.

Debugging mode was off still won't launch (win 7 64bit):(

Juice Defender isn't reliable... there are tons of people who have the problem that it won't properly reactivate the connections once it's switched them off. Apparently Green Power is much more reliable.

Wow... just purchased Green Power and it does indeed work a treat... connections are restored instantly and it's very configureable... highly impressed!

Ah, so it'll cut off from receiving any current after it's full?

Yes most smartphones do this. Just the same as most smartphones turn off (and will also report) when the battery is "dead" even though its not "dead"

Its to prevent you damaging your battery :)

Both of you should check out Juice Defender. It will switch wifi/mobile data off when screen is off but you can set it to reconnect at regular intervals to sync (I have mine set to every 15 minutes).

Gave the free version of that a go after you posted. Turned it on, just let it go with the defaults, balanced settings, whatever. The effects? Phone got very hot, and drained 20% of the battery in the 15 minutes before I un-installed it. :D :p Phone returned to normal once un-installed and rebooted. Can't say that its tempting me to fork out for the paid version of their app! :D Probably an app conflict or something, but I can't be arsed debugging it for them.

I'll have a gander at this Green Power thing instead.

Oh yes, phone was also being a bit weird earlier. I was trying to force it to use the 3G connection, had WiFi switched off, but for the life of me I couldn't get it to turn the 3G on, the wee icon wouldn't come up at the top bar (notification area?) even though I was at 5 bars reception. After a while my e-mail wanted to sync, and when that started, the 3G became active, until about 5 mins after the sync had done where it resumed its previous behavoir. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions on that issue?

I'd offer to help but 3G is one of the things I have switched off :/

This might help some people though.... (hopefully at least one)

Even though my Android OS is reporting 62% usage (No doubt through the draining bug) today I calibrated the battery using "batterycalibration" (just deletes the battery stats file and lets the phone re-create a new one)

I'd read it was worth doing if you had flashed a new ROM etc etc... I was a bit skeptical to it actually having an impact on the phone though so far....

6hrs usage = 89% left :D

Thought I'd mention it for those who haven't heard of the app.

Edit: Even though I havent used the phone much today (in comparison to yesterday) it still seems to be performing better, though will report back after more heavy usage.

Trickle charging isnt the same thing. Charge your S2 via the USB lead and you'll see trickle charging....

I'm sure it is - when it get to around 95% charge it will slow down when charging to 100% and when it gets to 100% it will stop charging and when it drops to around 95% again it will top up charge slowly - trickle.

That's my understanding.

Weird, works perfectly for me. Connections are restored within a second or two of screen coming on and has vastly improved my battery life. Like you say, could be an app conflict or something.

Any else having Wifi connection problems? Been connecting fine to my home Wifi for the past month, however for the past few days I can't connect at all. When I turn on Wifi the phone searches for a connection, fails to find one and then Wifi turns off. The 2nd time I try to connect the phone locks up. I've tried rebooting both the phone and the router with no success and there are plenty of other devices in my house connected via wifi.

Any suggestions?
