****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Im with O2 and due to upgrade in a month. Whats this 30% off? Was hoping to get this phone when O2 release it, will they be offering the phone for free with a tariff? Currently paying £35/month for unlimited net + other bits.

Good! Makes it less appealing to thieves and as I'm locked into an 18 month contract and happy with my network I really couldn't care less.

Nonsense. As someone else has said, how would a thief know if your phone is network locked or not?

Who cares? I'd prefer if it wasn't but not that bothered tbh. Besides that will be easily removeable via software/firmware upgrade I would hope.

The software branding will be removable via root etc, but the network lock wont. A lot of people actually care about it, probably more than you would think.

Good for you, but remember not everyone has £500 to throw around.

What has that got to do with anything? Mobiles.co.uk give better contract deals than Phones4u in most cases anyway.

Perhaps you ought to have some sort of clue what you are talking about before having a little fit over nothing.

Got an optimus 2x from them the other day, they told me there phones are unloked and unbranded. This was certainly true of my optimus 2x and my friends experia arc

Hopefully what they told me was wrong then :)

what's the best option for me to keep my existing number that i have through orange? i need it as it's for work but i'd like to get the best deal and most hopefully from a better network provider. i can wait a while if it has to port somewhere and then somewhere else etc but it needs to be a working number as much as possible that eventually i can have as the only number

i just posted something similar on XDA, but not promoting. I've often read this site, just not had cause to post till now.

I just ordered from Onestopphone shop (carphone warehouse subsidiary) doing talkmobile. CPW aren't listing Talkmobile yet so this is a good package include their totally unlimited data.

I settled with the 24m 300mins + 1000 texts 24m for £18 pm + £219.99 handset (effective per month inc handset= £27; total ownership cost £652)

http://www.onestopphoneshop.co.uk/mo...10#tariffs12_1

I found their website also doubled this up with quidco cashback. onestop payment screen struggled with credit card verification because they don't do that Visa secure thing - but I called 08715211412, and Kim helped honour the deal and said she'd sort the quidco. Or optionally give them my name Chris Dack so I get a small bung instead. I imagine the quidco would be better subscribed though :)

That phone no. is 10ppm but only took me 3 mins tops to go through the contracting and sayno lists an alternative via CPW switchboard.

Happy shopping.

Chris

bah im indecisive i've used my friends sg1 but im a bit of a sense lover but the samsung galaxy 2 seems quite superior to the htc sensation. Would it be silly for me to get the sensation over this phone? just because i prefer the layout of sense or should i just give in and try get on with the touchwiz? In addition does the sg have hotspot as i use my current htc quite a bit for it when im working as such and is quite a major benefit

bah ramble on >.> want either but which xD

I'd tell them, if I was being mugged.

Well I only have one sim card, on Orange so it really doesn't botehr me. The only time it would affect me is when I come to sell it and as I said there are at least 100 shops in my city that unlock phones for a tenner.

A lot of people actually care about it, probably more than you would think.

Who, drug dealers? They're the only people I know who have different sim cards from different networks and need to swap them about.

What has that got to do with anything? Mobiles.co.uk give better contract deals than Phones4u in most cases anyway.

Is that the same Mobiles.co.uk that is just an offshoot of the CarPhoneWarehouse?#

Well I just had a quick look at they couldn't match my 18 month contract, free handset, 700 minutes, unlimited text, 500mb free internet and free 8Gb memeory card for £40 a month. The only 18 month contract they do require an up fron payment (Orange).

Besides, it wouldn't be 'factory unlocked' if you buy it on contract through anyone (inc Mobiles.co.uk) which is what you said you were going to do hence my comment about not having £500 to throw about. The only way you'll get an unlocked, unbranded unit is if you buy it outright.

Perhaps you ought to have some sort of clue what you are talking about before having a little fit over nothing.

Perhaps you should and look who owns mobiles.co.uk.

Why have the Desire HD and Galaxy S that I have bought from buymobilephones.net all arrived with no carrier branding or network locks on them?

I am baffled as to why more people dont use them.

"Leave me alone, my phone is locked you know!" Haha, good luck with that :D

Who, drug dealers? They're the only people I know who have different sim cards from different networks and need to swap them about.

Many people who are abroad as one of many examples?

Do you seriously think the only people interested in unlocked phones are drug dealers? How incredibly odd.

Is that the same Mobiles.co.uk that is just an offshoot of the CarPhoneWarehouse?

Erm, yes? They tend to have better deals than CPW directly though and the customer service I've had from them has been superb on the many, many occasions I've used them.

Wrong. All Mobiles.co.uk (and Buymobilephones) handsets bar the iPhone are factory unlocked and unbranded ones :)

The reason I posted what I did is because Phones 4 U told me it was 'very likely' the phone would be locked, but they weren't sure. I'm not sure why you've got so upset about it.

Don't UK networks support phoning from abroad now, when did that happen?

When did I use the word 'only'? Anyway so far we have drug dealers and people who spend a lot of time abroad and want to save a few pence by using a local network (and put up with the hassle that comes with it, having a different number for example).

Still quite a narrow field of people and niether of those things apply to me.

Good, but they are still the CPW just under a different URL.

I can't find anything on their site that backs that claim up. You may be right, but it obviously can't be the desirable feature as you are making out if they can't be bothered to advertise it. Why aren't they promoting the fcat their phones are unlocked as this as it could get them more sales (especially from drug dealers and people who can't decide what country they live in :p).

But tell me, why do Orange insist everyone else locks their phone to their network but allow Mobiles.co.uk to get away with selling unlocked units? I'm genuinely interested.

The reason I posted what I did is because Phones 4 U told me it was 'very likely' the phone would be locked, but they weren't sure. I'm not sure why you've got so upset about it.

I'm not sure why you think I'm "upset" How could I be, I got an S2 on order :D:D:D

As I said in my first post, I'm not planning to sell this phone anytime soon and I'm just a 'normal' phone user (one sim card, one number) so it really doesn't bother me if it's locked to Orange, I'll get it unlocked when I come to sell it.

I just feel the whole 'unbranded' and 'unlocked' thing is a bit of a sacred cow for some people that's all. For example very few people change their branded booting splash screens on their PCs but when it come o their phone, seeing a brand name suddenly becomes an issue.
