****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Cyanogen Mod 9 is the closest you'll get to the Galaxy Nexus. Either that or a ROM based off of AOSP such as that Hydrogenics one.

Something for everyone I guess :p the status bar icons are a mess, and making everything transparent doesn't make a theme...

Really? I certainly haven't and I was a hardcore CheckROM v6 user.

I'm on 31.3 build of Hydrogenics now to compare battery usage and am using Codeworkx CM9 kernel. Also flashed the GPS patch for CM9 and GPS lock is <10s.

Same loved CheckROM 6 but moved with the times now & don't feel the need or want to go back to a GB based ROM. Sensation ROM is perfect for me at the moment.

If you want all features to work then a Samsung based custom ROM is the way to go, If you don't mind certain features missing then CM9/AOKP based ROM will suit you fine.

I get a 4 second lock on with that app too ^_^

Is it possible to keep the gingerbread camera app on ICS? I really dont like the ics one! The layout is messy and awkward to use!

I used and loved the Checkrom v6 for a good few months and have to say its the best gingerbread rom. But for ICS I recommend D4, I have tried most of the ics cooked roms for the gs2 on xda developers and hsve settled for D4. I have been using it since v1, now on v4, its stable, everything apart from radio works, great battery on LPR. If anyone fancies a try ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580070

so for people like my g/f that don't want to root and custom rom, is ics just a pipe dream on her unlocked s2?

The official statement from Samsung is that they are waiting for all the UK carriers to release ICS for their own networks before Samsung make it available for non-branded SGS2.

The reason for this is that un-branded phones needed to work on all networks so Samsung are waiting for the networks to release ICS so that they know it will work.

To me that sounds like a load of rubbish when I could either root my phone or update it via Odin, and it would work with whatever network I choose to use.

Well at least we are now only waiting for Orange/T-Mobile to finish putting their bloatware on ICS before Samsung release the update for non-branded phone.
