****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

I always get crazy artifacts after flashing a new kernel, can't do anything in recovery until I pull the battery. Might start flashing kernels through odin :p

*****Warning*****

I Just flashed from Hydrogen to F1 Nexus ROMs & I lost the contents of my DCIM & My_wallpaper folders :(

I'm not sure what happened but I'd advise backing up your ext SD card before flashing :)

Mountpoint differences. Content is still there, just roles reversed as emmc = embedded multimedia card, not external multi media card!

Anyone tried MIUI V4? It's based on Samsungs firmware this time around.

I've tried MIUI and personally think it's a great rom, out of the box, I used to get 3 days battery with light usage, breezes through a day even with heavy usage, but not sure what this V4 is about? This a modded version of MIUI on XDA?

There are many things to like about MIUI, the interface was nice and simple, the update process was basically completely automated, no messing about. Though at the same time there was a few things that I didn't like about it, can't remember them though as the pros well outweighed the cons.

I'll have a ganders at this V4.

Edit: The camera! That was definitely one of it's downfalls.

Edit: just installed a version of MIUI v4 and its really quick I have to admit, but too early to tell what battery is like. I've got a 3hr plane journey this afternoon so the perfect test!

Yeah, realised :D installed the asnet version from xda ans its really good and really smooth. Battery is really good as well for stock. In 20% I've had 5hours standby and hr and 1/2 screen time, so projected results would suggest 7 and 1/2hrs screentime in 24hrs.

Well since the update to ICS on my I9100P, I've had ridiculously poor battery life.

I took it off the charger about 9PM last night, and at lunch time today (14 hours later), I got the low battery warning. Previously, on gingerbread, I could get about 2 days of normal use. A few calls and some browsing or gaming at lunch time.

Heavy use? Heck no.

I sent 3 whatsapp messages, made a 2 minute phone call, and checked facebook once in that whole 14 hours.

70% of the battery use was down to the Android OS, according to the stats.

I've done a bit of reading, and if it doesn't get better, I'll do a factory reset.

Anyone else got any tips?

Also, is there any way to get the cool CRT type lock animation without rooting the phone? My mate has it on his Galaxy Nexus and it's bugging me.

Possible dodgy app?

I'm on Samsung stock ICS on my non-P version S2 and after 11 hours (average use - emails, Facebook, bit of Draw Something and 1 call), I'm down to 74% battery left.

I did a factory reset before upgrading.

Try taking out the battery, dunno why but <something> happens that causes utterly horrendous battery life, removing it fixes/resets whatever it was, or at least did for me but mine was a bit worse (10 hours tops from full to empty)

Mine seems to be doing the opposite at the moment - it reckoned it had 100% battery 90 minutes after I unplugged the charger!

Battery life so far seems VASTLY improved from gingerbread, i'm at 70% battery after 16h, with moderate work use during the day, bit of browsing etc.

It's either very good or it's lying to me :p

mrk - get a load of this LTE:

Hmmm, 4G rollout needs to happen faster!

Also, battery usage is now good enough to be acceptable from my point of view on this ROM/Kernel setup. I don't think I will change now and live it out until the S3 is in my hands.

Considering that's like 90% on network data so consuming more juice than WiFi you can imagine what that elapsed time would read if I did use WiFi all day :p
Needless to say, to be able to get up at 7am, have a full day at work and use the phone like a smartphone and then spend the rest of the evening trotting around town, going to the cinema etc and come home with 20% still left just before midnight...that's good going in my books.
