****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Well with nothing to do this evening it turns out that having an i9100P makes no difference! Now running Resurrection Remix and loving it! Phone is so much nicer to use.

Also watched the XDA Noob video. Fits me rather well ;)

Okay, so I want to factory reset my phone to hopefully fix a few bugs/performance issues I've been having since the ICS upgrade. I also want to back-up the settings in a few apps/games, so I assume I need to root first.

Now, a few questions. Saw this link mentioned earlier in the thread, is this the best guide to use for rooting? Is Titanium Backup the best app to use for backing up app settings? After doing the factory reset, would that effectively 'unroot' the phone or would it remain? Lastly, am I correct in assuming that I won't lose my photos, wallpapers, ringtones etc? I'll probably do a back-up first anyway but it'd be convenient if I don't have to start over with a fresh phone.

Thanks chaps. :)

@ mrk - what speed we're you getting on your S2 when using AirDroid to transfer files off your PC to you phone? in MB/s. You have a Netgear WNDR3700...right?

Anyone else please post your router and speeds please :)

I never used AirDroid for mass transfers, I only had AirDroid as a novelty to show people the potential. I used ES and SwiFTP. I would get about 2-3MB/s write speeds.

cheers - any FTP write speed will suffice - so was that speed limited by the S2 (most likely) or the router?

Definitely not the router, S3 gets +6MB/s write speeds.

Wireless G only (65Mbps) + overheads = 2-3MB/s write speeds.

Remember, S3 connects at double the wifi speed of the S2.

5GHz Wireless-N support is flaky and reception isn't very good on the S2. I've tried it on the S2 at work and home with various brands of network hardware and it never performed well. Plus 65Mbps max.

What are you getting?

It doesn't like the 5GHz band, Wireless-N on 2.4GHz was fine but as I said, only 65Mbps max as that's what the S2 supports.

I see, Thanks. - was looking at the WNDR4500/ASUS RT-N56U/N66U.

But since I'll only get 2-3MB/s I'll may just wait till I get my new phone first.

Is the S3 top dog for FTP speeds? I think the HOX+HOS have channel bonding too IIRC.

Someone with a OneX confirm speeds when connnected to Wireless-N :p

Pretty sure that's the Wi-Fi bug, do you have Wi-Fi on a lot of the time?
What Wi-Fi bug?

Also what is the current ROM of choice? Haven't bother flashing anything in a long time, running WanamLite.Stock.DXLP7 at the moment. Don't think I've ever flashed a kernel separately either.

My S2 on omega 4.0 seems to freeze quite a bit nowadays :(

Happens when im using MX Player to watch films sometimes, and also a lot when i try and open the camera app, its unresponsive in both instances, prompting me to do a battery pull.

Looking to move roms now, anyone recommend anything?

Sometimes Wi-fi causes the battery to drain when it's in deep sleep, not sure why and it happens once in a while.

I am using Cyanogen Mod 9 since it's bug free for the most part and stock Android 4.04 - it'll also be amongst the first to sync to the Jelly Bean source code when it's released.

It's tempting to try out one of these Samsung based ROMS to see what I am missing from Touchwiz though.

Off the top of my head

Samsung based ROMS
Stock Samsung linked above
Neatrom
Neatrom lite
Wanam
Pure ICS
Sensation ROM

AOSP/CM ROMS
CM9 Obviously
Paranoid Android
SlimICS
F1 Galaxynexus

AOKP based ROMS
Rootbox
Hydяa
Resurrection ROM

Try paranoid its quite nice and as bug free as samsung rom is which had no freezes for me

Yeah still rocking ParanoidAndroid, I have been using it since it was called D4rom, Apart from CM they are actually trying to do something different, Unlike a lot of the other custom ROMS.

ParanoidAndroid + Darkknight 1.8 kernel & NELP3 modem = happy phone :p

I find my satnav voice isn't nearly as loud as it used to be on Gingerbread. Can anyone tell me how to access the phones hidden service menus where you can alter volumes? I remember someone giving me instructions months ago for increasing earphone jack volume on Gingerbread where you alter the volume numbers, but I can't remember what the steps are.

edit: I typed Service Mode number *#*#197328640#*#* into the keypad and some menus came up. When I clicked on [5] Audio nothing happened, so I think samsung must have locked it?

Seems this is the place to find the s2 experts.. I was just wondering what the battery life on an s2 is generally like compared to the htc one s? I was all but set on a one s but the signal issues are really offputting. Thought I might save the money and get an s2 as the one x and s3 are just too big. Thx!
