**The Official Star Wars Battlefront II Thread (PC)**

I think it is pretty obvious what to do..... If you care about the future of gaming then don't support the game and its practices by buying it no matter how much you want the game.

Some interesting reading on reddit this morning:

https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBa...by_making_a_big_fuss/?st=J9WJ21YJ&sh=3ba85149

https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBa...ctually_helping_by_making_a_big_fuss/dpolnhs/

So potentially and very likely the following:

- all future DLC that was promised to be free "could" be held behind in game credits thus incredibly grindy to unlock all that so called "free" content
- if lootboxes aren't selling to EA's standards, they will probably halt any future development/dlc and say that the game isn't making enough money therefore they can't release/develop any more for the game i.e. guilt tripping people into buying loot boxes.....
- campaign story hasn't even been finished and will be tied to dlc so the second point could potentially also apply here i.e. EA hold the campaign as essentially a "hostage" if people don't buy/support loot boxes, heck they might even lock the story behind pay walls i.e. like tettale's games or hitman :o

Quite frankly this game is taking the **** and people should be ashamed to support it and before anyone says "oh but I'm not buying loot boxes", you are still supporting the practices in this game.

Oh and to add some extra fuel to the fire surrounding loot boxes, pay to win (sorry, pay to "progress") and a grindy game....

Or just spend $600

LOL

EDIT:

Blimey, they are getting pummelled on the official reddit!

Hopefully the stats site get their players playing stats page up soon, it's going to be fun to watch the numbers drop :D

Do people honestly think it will change though? I mean it's great to see this happening but nothing changed from the beta of substantial note. :(

I'd love to know what was the first game that introduced loot boxes

If no ones buy the game then they have no choice but to change the game. Problem is people think that it won't change etc. etc. so buy it anyway and decide to then bitch about it on forums, youtube etc. but the thing is, EA/dice don't care as they have got your money in the end, simply, people need to vote with their wallets.

People also have to remember that EA has the IP/rights to this for 10 years.......

I doubt they will change unless they see a big dip in sales. I won't and like Nexus18 says vote with your wallets. However there are a lot of console gamers I know who dont really care or clued up on it and will still buy it :(, im sure there are PC gamers too.

Game looks amazing on ultrawide though, one of the only newer games ive tried on it!

Might as well buy it now then dude, in for a penny, in for a pound :)

As I said before, I would rather jerk myself of with sandpaper than support this game! :D Only way I would get this is if it happens to come with a PS 4 bundle :p

Given the huge backlash over this game, I wouldn't be surprised if disney stepped in due to the bad publicity but then again, they are just as bad, if not worse than EA for when it comes to milking.........

Never seen a game get so much back lash, heck even batman arkham knight for the PC didn't get this much backlash and that game was completely broken for the PC!

I fully get that I do, and from everything I've seen the loot boxes do make it pay to win. However on the flip side there will be people who don't buy loot boxes also people could have all best gear and still be crap at it.

I'll use fifa as an example, I won't lie I do spend £5 on points a year max on it, however I have never had the high tier players Messi etc and I have faced teams with them and they have been utter tripe and I have walked over them.

I can say 100% should I end up with this game I'll buy no loot boxes at all as it's clear it's pay to win or aiming for that at least.

If a game is going to do it, it needs to make it so can unlock everything or make coin easy obtaininable, in way ea has done this with fifa no need to buy coins as can easy make 100k in not that many matches for example.

My over all view is get rid of them completely or limit them do cosmetic stuff only like overwatch has done however I don't see either happening any time in next five years

As people have said, it's not so much pay to win, well it is..... but it is more pay to "progress". Some of the cards are ridiculous though and will definitely give a huge advantage to anyone and just make the already good players extremely OP.

But yes, loot crates should be kept to overwatch standards, purely cosmetic and nothing else.

lmao :D

Gaming is a complete joke nowdays. The corporate machine doesn't care.

There's a reason for that, people like Ubisoft and Take-Two (GTA V publisher) are reporting almost record profits on the back of microtransactions.

GTA V is the most successful game of all time and it still pulling in millions of dollars from microtransactions.

Remember, casual gamers don't know/care about this controversy and you'll likely find in a year that Battlefront II is one of EA's more profitable games.

^^

Yup pretty much.

Also, iirc, a mass effect developer said a while ago that loot boxes/micro transactions were the way forward as they had a couple of guys spend thousands on just loot boxes :o

EA posted on Reddit regarding the locking of stuff, it's now the most downvoted comment in Reddit history, the 2nd most downvoted Reddit comment in history is currently at -24k  , EA so far ahead now.

https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBa...ously_i_paid_80_to_have_vader_locked/dppum98/

bahahahahahahaha

Then I read this comment:

The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.

:D

Good to see ronku whore jackfrags is trying to downplay the issue, he makes some valid points but also some completely and utterly retarded comments:

- from what I seen, all this so called "free" dlc/content might be free but it is going to be locked behind in game pay walls thus either grind for 40+ hours to unlock the stuff or buy loot boxes. I think it is safe to say that the vast majority of people would rather have premium/season pass over BF 2 current system.... Heck shouldn't need to have any system like either but premium/paid for dlc is by far the lesser of 2 evils in this case

- people aren't really that bothered about pay to "win", more the pay to "progress", as I was saying last night to a friend, the amount of time required to level up the class was 1600 hours, that is more gameplay time than what I have in BC 2, BF 3, BF 1 and SWBF 1 combined...... It is just slightly less hours than what I have in bf 4 and I had everything unlocked in that game within a few hundred hours.....

I also have to laugh at people that try to claim that developers have a hard time of making money, no they really don't, remind me again, how much these companies are worth? That's right, millions, if developers want more money then they should be asking their publishers/ceo for a pay increase..... Also, remind me again how much money games like mario, zelda etc. made? And they had no dlc or micro transactions........ If developers aren't happy with their income and want more money then move to a new job.

Oh well, at least it looks like dice/ea are going to have to address this now. Going to be interesting to see what their next SWBF or BF game will be like with regards to micro transactions..... Supposedly need for speed payback is even worse

EA can keep any game tied to Origin forever AFAIC

As soon as they feel like & or want to push the next franchise instalment they can give just 30 days notice to turn the servers off rendering any Origin only title useless (in the T&C small print). This is why I refused to buy any EA product since 2013 even Ubisoft or Activision keep servers running for years or have offline modes like Uplay does to at least allow you to play an older game. EA does not have an offline mode for when the Origin server gets retired so SW Battlefront1 for example is unplayable once this happens I think its very bad practice to support games which have this as in 2-3 years you may want to have a quick blast & a back catalogue game but it will not be possible unless EA change their Origin server retirement program.
