And that display? It's gorgeous. If you've had the opportunity to compare the new iPad to the old iPad you'll know the kind of leap forward we're talking about here. It's that much better, but it isn't just resolution. Contrast seems greater and viewing angles too. We'll need more time to do a thorough analysis but we can say with confidence this display doesn't disappoint.

£1,528.80 for the Retina 15" MBP on the Education store. Seriously tempting at that price!

Anyone wanna buy an upgraded 13" 2011 MBP? :D

Once again it appears Apple have missed the boat and omitted the only functions most people jailbreak for, from it's new OS.

The ability to quick reply to messages, and the ability to quickly switch things like wi-fi, 3G etc on and off are still seemingly not present in IOS6.

Ridiculous.

True,
The only reason why I jailbreak my phone is to use Bitesms because of quick reply etc and to have my own custom message tone. Something simple such as custom message tone and I have to breach Apple's T&C's because they fail to add it.

Hmm, I quite like the fact I have 2 hdds in my laptop as I can have a TB storage drive, I don't think the new retina one has this capability :/

That resolution . But am I right in thinking the effective resolution is 1440x900?

Yep. But then again, it isn't as simple as that, as the applications won't simply quadruple everything. You will be able to zoom out images, for example, and they won't be quadrupled (they can be 1:1 pixel-wise).

Bit confusing, but for text work, not really much point unless you want huge quantities of tiny text on screen. Image editing will probably see benefits, but video editing will still be restricted to an interface that is the same size, meaning that you won't gain anything at all from shrinking the video on screen.

Slightly off topic but thinking of buying a cheaper, older Macbook pro soon and upgrading the drive to SSD. Good idea?

Yes!! You can get 2007 MBPs (the ones without the black bezel round the screen) for under £300 if you're patient. Good core2duos, runs Lion well and an SSD would make it excellent.

This is my main concern, at 1080p on my 15" laptop its just about the perfect size, a lot of room to work on but never need to zoom in, at that pixel I think you would be contantly zooming in and increase your font size. However we are yet to see it I guess and how the OS will deal with it, but I personally think the way everything is getting double the res it seems more of a gimmick then to be of really great use to the end user.

But I really wanna try one, in the market for a more protable laptop and one thing I love about macbooks is the power cable.
