*** The OS X Lion Thread ***

So

as always on day 2 of a new OS

everyone feels that it is a mixed bag of good and not so good.

Nothing new then

I'm sure they will sort all these little bugs out.

(But chaps, keep that snow leopard disc handy, just in case lol)

Nope... At the minute Spaces and Exposé have been combined into the (imo crippled) Mission Control :(. As a result, I'm back on SL.

You can do so much more with Mission Control but it takes some getting used to. I like Snow Leopard but I wouldn't go back just because I don't like change!

What do you mean by 'so much more'? So far I only found stuff I could do in SL that I can't do in Lion...

I have a question.

I have my itunes library in two places. At work on a portable, and at home on my Mac.

I sometimes rip CDs at home, sometimes at work, so my Music folders differ.

I want to have the same content on both, and I don't mind doing this manually. If I used Lion to merge a folder one way, then do it again back the other way, will the files and folders be identical?

Or should I find a software solution?

My main interest in Lion is the encrypted Time Machine backups. Can anyone tell me if you can do this without needing File Vault enabled on the Mac as well?

Anyone?

EDIT: Nvm, it seems you can.

Anybody else having issues with page swipe (2 finger gesture). It works fine for me when switching between full screen applications and the desktop or the widgets etc, but it doesn't seem to work in safari.

I was kind of expecting it to be used to flick forward and back through pages, but instead the window just kinda jerks. Or am I mistaken and that gesture is actually used to flick between tabs?

Only played around with it for about 30 mins last night, but so far so good :)

Does anybody have a response for this?

I am a heavy abuser of the three finger swipe to page forward / back and it seems to have gone awol!

If you open the touchpad preference pane and then change the swipe between pages preference to "Swipe with two or three fingers" you will gain the 3 finger swipe forward/back in safari and in finder.

Anyone web developers here used this and experienced problems with development environments. Particularly rails and homebrew installs.

You can quick look at windows for example... What do you mean by can't do? It's different from Expose but I've not seen that it is less functional.

For one thing, you can't use Exposé to spread out all windows in one desktop - it only does it for one application at a time. This makes it effectively useless for anyone who uses a lot of applications at once.

To enable back/forward gesture in Safari & Finder, without loosing the new animated back/forward two finger swipe in safari, do the following:

A. System Preferences -> Trackpad -> More Gestures (Tab)

B. Change the, 'Swipe Between Pages', Drop-Down Menu selection.

C. From the default, 'Swipe Left or Right with Two Fingers, to 'Swipe with Two or Three Fingers'.

Thank you <3

But screw safari. Having a separate address bar and search bar is so last decade :p

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't Mission Control show you this information? Can't check as I am at work on a Windows PC!

I don't want to get into a which browser is greater argument but I use normally use FF or Chrome as I can sync bookmarks with my MBP and windows PC's via the cloud.
