*** The OS X Lion Thread ***

Sort of, you have to do this three finger and thumb crab motion. Bit like this:

*snip*

That's launchpad. You can get to Mission control with a 4 finger swipe. You can customize/enable/disable most of the gestures from the pref pane.

Installed it tonight. Love it. It's a great improvement. A few things have to be tweaked like gestures etc but you can't expect it to be perfect from first boot, fools :)

Love Mission Control, I never really used Spaces so can't really compare but it's very cool thing, being able to swipe between Desktops is really cool.

I like the finder and new graphics, everything seems more clearer but maybe that's just me. Overall it feels much easier to use. Love the full-screen mode and resizing of apps windows style.

Don't use iTunes so can't really comment on that. I find PhotoBooth a bit slow and crappy but like the new effects, just not the GUI. Don't think I will use LaunchPad, more than happy with my Applications Pop-Up on the Dock.

I think Apple could have done better on the desktop backgrounds compared to Snow Leopard. Anyways, back playing :)

I just expect something worth £20, which lion isn't imo.

Get a refund then fool and get out of this thread. :)

I am most interested in the Expose/Show Desktop that is in SL. Mission Control looks good as a replacement for Expose/Show Programs, Launchpad looks useless :)

I have the 2008 MBP so have the smaller trackpad with a "proper"/old Click button. I suspect this is gonna make these new fangled pinch gestures a but tricky!

Pinching together is launchpad? OK, then separating your fingers from the pinch motion is definitely App Exposé :)

Ooo, I've just noticed that Finder is automatically picking up windows machines on my network for the first time ever!!

Lion (a complete OPERATING SYSTEM) isn't worth £20?
Do you even hear yourself talk?

Even if it was Vista it would be worth £20! Absolute tool!

It's not £20, though, is it. He's already paid for Snow Leopard, or paid for the upgrade after paying for Leopard, or paid for it as part of a machine purchase. This is £20 for new features in a pre-existing operating system. If it was a "complete operating system" it would be OS XI.

Now, I'm a big Mac fan, and I'll be buying Lion at some point, but it's rubbish to say it's a "complete operating system".

So maybe we should ask you - Do you even hear yourself talk?

As Nonhelmet has pointed out.
Lion is only a whole operating system if you DIDN'T already run SL. I did. So yes, I did hear myself talk thanks.
Perhaps if you can't tolerate other people's opinions you shouldn't be in this forum, let alone the internet. Now who is the tool.....
I also somehow don't think Apple will willingly refund consumers for their bad software purchases...

Is there anyway of stopping me from installing this onto a computer with Tiger on from the disc i have made?

If not then it's £20 for a full OS imo.

Of course its a complete operating system!? lol whatever.. you simply can't turn my opinion around on myself! ha!

So is Windows 7 not a complete operating system over Windows Vista? Sure doesn't look that much more different.

What do you expect it to be? A hologram?.
I guess it looks the same, operates the same because theres no point changing something that isn't broken or doesn't work. Like it or lump it, its a complete operating system if it cost £20 or if it cost £200.

I actually can't believe you can hate a product that is so cheap. Ive spend more money on AngryBirds than I have Lion!

I can tolerate other peoples opinions just fine. I pulled on you because you said you didn't get your £20 quids worth which to me just sounds ludicrious. Again I'm saying this twice. You had Snow Leopard and knew exactly what Lions features were yet you still bought it expecting more? Please explain this to me?

It's not a complete operating system. It's an upgrade to an existing operating system. If you don't accept that, then that's a technical misunderstanding on your part, not a failure of opinion on mine or RoleyBirkin's.

Windows Vista is Windows 6.0. Windows 7 is... Windows 7.0. Snow Leopard is OS X 10.6. Lion is OS X 10.7. Good job picking an example that works against you. You know, I'll throw you a bone here - Windows XP is Windows 5.1. Windows 2000 was Windows 5.0. That any good to you?

I didn't know exactly which features were new in Lion. Lets just say I took a leap of faith.
I also didn't say I hate it. I just don't think it's great value for money, unlike many other Apple products which are.
It's just an opinion. I didn't see the title stating 'positive posts only', so I felt free to share without the risk of being 'pulled up'. Poke around the internet; I'm not the only one to have posted less than radiant comments.
Besides, just because it may not be worth £20 imo, doesn't mean it doesn't have some good points. It does.
Not interested in getting into skirmishes on here, so that's the limit of my thoughts on the matter.

PS. Logsi, there's no short upgrade from Tiger to Lion that I'm aware.

Loving the new Mail, The new gestures aren't so new for me as I used them on my iPad when I had it, a few of them are reverse of the equivalent function on the iPad which doesn't really make sense Mainly the show desktop.

Quite laughable that they've only just got Full screen apps!

The scrolling thing is alright, Going between a PC and a Mac is going to be a bit of an issue now I can imagine, Might see if I can enable it on my pc as it does seem to be pretty good.

Overall for £20 can't really go wrong can you, I mean everything else they do is pretty overpriced :P

Edit: also having used iOS 5 beta since it came out the similarities between the 2 o/s's are subtle yet quite apparent..

Wrong. Windows 7 is Windows 6.1 (technically it's Windows NT 6.1, just like XP is Windows NT 5.1 etc.)

I think the point he is making is that XP, Vista, W7 are new reworked OS and not just an upgrade to the existing OS.

While Lion is cheap it does just sound like its a addon pack. After reading this thread and seeing other comments I'm not sure it's worth the effort.
