Sony have proven they are kings when it comes to in house solutions like checkerboarding so can't say I would be surprised with them ditching amds attempt here, after all, FSR 2 STILL isn't in more than 2-3 games on consoles despite people claiming it will be in everything on all platforms :o Frame gen on consoles will probably be quite pointless though, as we all know, you really need a base fps of at least 50-55, ideally 60 so if attempting to improve frame rate from a base fps of 30, I can't imagine the results being good but who knows....
 
FSR quality vs DLSS performance



Some areas are better with fsr and some better with dlss.

FSR quality vs dlss balanced, probably isn't picked up well in the video but even the upscaling of fsr isn't as looking as smooth as dlss (regardless of fps) but that may be down to the fizzling in the trees that gives a stuttery look.


Not tried myself but apparently preset c for dlss is even better.

It's the best version by far but it still isn't a patch on dlss when you see with your own eyes especially in areas more dominated by the trees against the skyline where fizzling is very obvious. And sadly, for anything less than 4k and the UQ/Q preset, it falls apart. Also, there is an area later in the game which is just open fields with grass (and heavy wind so grass is blowing every where) and fsr doesn't handle it well.

This is ultimately it really and also to start seeing improvements for with fsr for lesser res. and lower presets (especially since this is becoming more needed now)

AMD consumer GPU designs for the last few years have been bankrolled by consoles.

Any Sony exclusive hardware upscaler will be developed for Sony by AMD as they design the SOC. AMD owns Xilinx which designs FPGAs, etc. Some of the latest AMD APUs are incorporating Xilinx design logic for AI accelerated operations. So it's most likely a Xilinx designed custom part configured to do upscaling.

The PS5 Pro apparently will have a hybrid RDNA3/RDNA4 design. So that means RDNA4 will probably integrate the same hardware.

Right on, I forgot fsr3 was directx exclusive. That's even more reason for Sony to switch to its own upscaler otherwise Xbox has a clear advantage


The other thing is that Sony has acccess to the lowest levels of the OS and access to the frame data, so if they implement their own hardware upscaler they can probably do it in a way so that the console can upscale all games and doesn't need the developer to manually implement it. That's the point of consoles and universal hardware, you can do smart things like this that can't be done on PC

Nonsense as usual.

FSR2.1 has been implemented on PS5. It is upto the developer if they want to use it and CDProjekt did for Cyberpunk 2077. Digital Foundary's video shows it working on the PS5 and XSX.


In case people are unfamiliar with coding, anyone can implement FSR 2 or 3 into their game code since it's open source. There is nothing stopping it working on a PS5.

Out of interest, how many games on console have FSR now? Avatar is what the 3rd or 4th title? Also, the first title to get FSR 3? Maybe next year we'll see this huge and quick uptake that everyone kept talking about when FSR was released.....



Frame generation is going to be crap on consoles too, the only way it will be viable is for the games where 60 fps is your base but as we all know, consoles are having to make huge sacrifices to achieve a locked 60 fps.

While we're talking about adoption, in a survey with 5K+ entries for DLSS users over at TPU, over 53% prefer to run native.:p

I'm referring to ps 5 and xbox where the main games are. So is it still 3-4 games for the ps 5/xbox?

Probably mostly amd fanbase who voted for that :cry: Much like the amd fanbase who voted for power efficiency being the most important thing when considering a gpu and rdna 3 vs ada efficiency, well......

i don't consider anything but native resolution a thing, you either play native or don't, "upscaling" is "garbage in, garbage out", the missing info simply is not there at all, same as the "render scale" BS that most games nowadays have.

And yet here we are again were such comments as well as yours have been debunked by several sources showing that dlss is more often than not better than native :cry:

Edit: I just realized it's specifically targeted to Nvidia owners lol. @W1zzard maybe add an option "I have AMD" or add AMD options. I think you'll get more AMD users that'll vote native which skews the results.

This guy said it best, you'll just be getting salty amd fanboys skewing results because dlss is king for upscaling, which only nvidia rtx users can use.

but unfortunately with no checks and balances on that, both the discussion and poll results are skewed by non DLSS users.

Still awaiting all these games plagued with issues :D Funny thing is that the 3080 is now out performing the 6900xt when it was neck in neck with the 6800xt :o




We all know that amd fans are more vocal online, it's usually this way with the underdog/"white knight", nothing new. Again, just look at how important power efficiency was and once rdna 3 figures came out, silence.... :cry:
