The Tesla Thread

Just saw a Tesla service car driving around in local area. Never noticed them before now you guys mentioned. I have started noticing them.

Is this part of the service as Tesla? Like how many years of cover do you get or is it life time thing?
I believe if there is a ranger available they will try to do work at your location. It's not like they need to deal with a lot of engine mess.

Wait till you realise you don't even need to service the car to keep your warranty. They recommend cabin air filter change every two years, but sell them for £15 and provide a guide. Or you can pay them ofc. Also recommend brake fluid check every 2 years and air con service every 4.

They are very cheap to own.

It’s included as part of owning a tesla. Obviously anything under warranty is free, anything not under warranty, you pay.

I don’t think the rates differ between mobile and service centre work if you need to pay.

Despite the time and vehicle cost of traveling, I imagine mobile is cheaper to operate, the overhead is so low outside of those two points, particularly compared to paying for a huge building plus all the utilities, business rates etc.

a no cost addition to the joys of ownership, it basically the new way of doing minor services, you don't have to sign up or pay a sub, it's just there as part of the service.
Open the app ask for what you want in the drop down menus and they decide if they can do it via mobile service or if something major you'll have to take it to a main hub which could be quite far away.
35 miles for me if something big goes wrong.

Never even heard of the Tesla ranger, however this has prompted me to want a model 3 even more for the convenience that I would hope doesnt happen too often, the model 3 performance we were looking at is now coming out at 115 more a month than our current id3 tour pro S. Does the model 3 really supersede the ID3 tour pro s to warrant the extra money per month? They’re both pretty much 77kwh?

We’re on the verge of settings things in motion for a loft conversion so the sensible adult in me can’t help but think that extra money per month would go towards that……. but I just love my gadgets :D

Go and test drive it, only you can decide that.

The Model 3 is objectively a better car (ignoring the form factor and if that works for your or not) than the ID.3.

The Model 3 is in a completely different class when it comes to performance.

Have you looked at a long range version? You lose track mode (which you’ll probably never use) about 1s on the 0-60, boot spoiler, red brakes and it comes with smaller rims but gain about 20-40 miles of range. The long range is no slouch when it comes to performance, it’s 4.4s to 60 or something daft like that.

That’s correct but it also has its downsides.

There is also a lot more going on in a Tesla like the autopilot computer which is always running when the car is on so they do die very quickly if there is a problem. When I say quickly, we are talking about under an hour.

It’s not like a leaf where you can put in your physical key, pull a mechanically connected door handle and pull a mechanically connected bonnet/boot release.

To get back into the car you need to take off the towing eye cap, pull out the two little cables and use a jump pack on them will pop the bonnet. You can then get to the 12V battery to jump it directly. Only at that point can you boot the cars computer to get the doors etc working.

If the HV battery dies or you run it down to the point the car shuts down, it will probably stop charging your 12v battery and if you leave the car ‘on’, it will probably go flat before recovery gets to you.
I'd imagine for most it shouldn't be an issue anymore, just leave it on charge every night if you get a message about the 12v?

Enyaq has a 2yearly plan which costs £280. I don’t know what they gonna check/change for that £280. But VW Labour cost has always been high. 1hr of their technician time is £185…

I’ll continue to have a look, thanks for the help and info does there tend to be more problems with the pre 2020 model 3s? That’s my only worry

You don’t really want a car that was made in Freemont. The cars with black door handles are made in Shangai and are screwed together a *lot* better.

I can’t remember when the switchover happened. Maybe the 70 plates?

THIS 100%
Ah you both have confirmed a small article I read. The performance I was looking at was a 69 plate not 70, chrome handles…..which sounds like it’s over priced for its age and potential “Fremont “ demons.
I’ll stick with the id3 for the time being as there’s not a lot out there.

Thanks guys

I know Tesla don't want to Osborne the 3/Y by announcing the gen 3 cars too early but because I can't order a RHD car with all the latest manufacturing advances I've decided to keep my 2019 SR+ anyway. I have a decent example with no issues and it saves me loads of money compared to an ICE car or financing another new Tesla. I can't see myself buying another brand unless I went back to an i3 as I did like that car so much but I had a 60Ah model with at best 80 miles range in summer.

This was the one I was looking at, does it look reasonable? It seems to have the Matt black centre console which seems to be “one of the newer ones” but chrome handles.

This is a Fremont built car I’d think. If it doesn’t have the two wireless phone charging pads in the centre console it’s the older model which I probably wouldn’t be buying. I had a 2021 China-built car which was decent but not perfect and certainly wouldn’t want anything that was any worse built than that. But each to their own.

Funnily enough it has the two wireless phone chargers which I believe are from newer ones? Yet has chrome handles like a pre facelift. Best avoiding?
Nope. wrong centre console..
It should also have the dash trim on the doors which it doesn't

This should cover it..

Christ, even I'm wrong. that car doesn't have the door trim change so that must have been the year after #facepalm

Shrug! They all look the same minus minor differences lol. Either way if you guys believe it to be a Fremont build I shall forget this model 3 *thumbs up* I don’t really want the worries of out of warranty problems with a potential build that is known for some electrical demons etc, I’d be no better off than with the id3 currently.

It's not just the looks but some of the features aren't present / benefit from OTA updates on the "older" models

pretty sure the fremont ones didn't have the heatpump (as explained in the video when he opens the bonnet (*frunk* shudders) which you WILL want in the UK. :D
