The Updated X2 3800+ Overclocking Thread ...

Just received a LDBFE 0626GPMW on saturday :) . It's a pretty descent overclocker, doing 2.6ghz@stock volts, but I'm running [email protected] for 24/7 use. Doesn't respond well at all to vcore bumps :( . But 2.6ghz@stock volts is still descent.

280x10, 1.525V, LDBFE 0626GPMW, 200mhz timings 2-3-2-5, water cooled, prime95 stable(only done 2 hours yet, gonna try more when I have time)

Okay here are my results for the newer AM2 core (WINDSOR). Posted most of this on another thread but I think it fits in here too.
.....
Okay now I am SUPER STABLE @2.52GHz though I have had to raise Vcore to 1.49V(PC PROBE READING incl. OFFSET) which is ok but temperatures are high 62C under full load (both cores running Prime95). I can just about live with that I think as my old Athlon 3000 runs and has been running @60C+ for 2 1/2 years!!!!! Looks like I am on the lookout for a decent AM2 cooler.

Below are my full BIOS settings for 3800x2(AM2)@2520MHz with stock air cooler. [M2N32SLI mobo with 603 BIOS].

2520MHz ..... 280FSBx9, mem ddr667 (MHz), vcore=1.49, vdimm=2.3V
4-4-4-12-2T, changed HT mult. 3x
Memtest stable 8hrs, Prime95 stable 12hrs-1and2core,
Temps : CPU 38c(idle), 52c(load-1core), 62c(load-2cores), 47c(motherboard)
Mem. speed= 840MHz - Memory Bandwidth Sandra=8900MB/s
PCMark05 score=6301
Under Advanced Voltage Control->
DDR2 Termination Voltage = 0.6x
CPU to NB HT Voltage =1.2V
NB to SB HT Voltage=+1.3
SB Standby Voltage=1.6V
Under Chipset settings ->
SB - NB frequency=200MHz
HT x =3x
NB-SB HT speed=5x
SB-NB HT Speed=5x
Others...
AMD Live,Cool&Quiet, Q fan control ALL DISABLED

All other settings are AUTO or defaults as far as I am aware.

Will be interesting to see what other people get temperature wise compared to me using different coolers. I personally needed lots more VCore (1.425 ----> 1.49) just to get Prime95 stable on both cores.

Did manage to boot windows @2.7 but Prime95 was unstable on both cores + temps started getting to silly levels and needed 1.59V Vcore!!!!! I suppose a better cooler will sort this out but there do not seem to be many AM2 coolers out there at the moment (Zalman 9500+Freezer64Pro). There is also the ThermalRight Ultra120 but I cannot see any1 selling it with the AM2 clip.

HTH

TABLE UPDATED

Thanks for your input guys. It's nice to see an AM2 clock in there, but it's looking a bit lonely, so if you see anyone OCing this CPU ... poke them in this direction :).

what kind of temps should i be expecting on my toledo under stock cooling, at each stage of clocking?

eg.. 2.1ghz = 45c, 2.2ghz = ??c, 2.3ghz = ??c.. something like that. thanks!

Voltage will have a bigger difference on temps than clockspeed.

Why would you put 1.7v through your cpu for stock speeds :eek:

Run the cpu at stock mhz/stock volts, note the load temp then increase the volts/stock mhz - the temp will increase. Both mhz and vcore increase obviously have an effect on heat but I normally find that volts make the bigger increase - but then with voltage increase comes mhz increase (why else increase the volts :P) so I guess its hard to tell....bah.

When trying to do burn-in for an example :p

lol

i can get mine Prime stabe at
3800+ X2 AM2
2.6ghz
260mhz
10x
HT stuff is at 3x

mobo is the one in my sig and stuff

got an queston tho soon as i stop prime 95 on both cores my cpu temps drop by 10c instantly makeing me think that my temp on the cpu is not 61-62c (hmm intresting soon as i unticked the Q-fan option inside of AI booster it droped the CPU temp to 51c?)

problem is my pc will not boot all i get is an ram beed error (unless asus have changed the beep codes long beep folowed by 2-3 sort ones) once reset button is pressed give that failed overclock msg but if i use the AI booster to step up the cpu speed its stable but reporting hot under prime 95

just so i am not filling this thread up on how to OC an pc has any one got an linky on overclocking an asus AM2 mobo {in sig}

hi leex,

Nice to see another 3800x2 AM2 system. Just one question ... is that 2.6GHz overclock stable on both cores running Prime95?? I use SP2004 a GUI which runs Prime95 on both cores at the same time. I could get mine Prime95 stable on 1core all the way up to 2.7GHz using stock cooling. Running both cores together seems to add 7C-10C to single core load temps.

What temps do you have loading 1core and 2cores???

Jules

We've been discussing over in this thread if it helps we all seem to have the same setup.

In My second Pc i have got on of these puppies JH-E6 stepping i believe, i dont think this stepping is as good as the E4 stepping, i can get max stable speed of 2750-2800mhz with water, ive tried with two motherboards ive had in the past (asus A8R32-MVP and a Abit Fatality), it seems that this paticular stepping requires a lot more juice aswell to achieve 2800mhz i had to raise vcore to 1.65-1.7v :eek: which is well high and the chip ran a little toasty like 55'-65' which cant be good and thats even with water, i have noticest that most of the E4 steppings only need like 1.45v to acheive such speeds. i also used to have a 3700 SD and that was a E4 stepping and overclocked better than any chip i have ever had (apart from my new conroe ;) ) used to be able to like 3150mhz on air with the asus a8r32 board, ive built a few systems for friends and used the same San deigo chip and had nowhere neer the succesfull overclock, most maxed out between 2800-2900mhz, so i guess it shows its luck of the draw with these chips!! Also sorry for this long post but is it normal that my chip in all versions of CPU-Z shows as a toledo core? as i know for a fact it is a manchester core, a lot of people have posts show that CPU-z says they have a manchester core so why does it detect mine as a toledo? i noticed there was 1 or 2 in the chart that also have a toledo core, what does this mean?? can the extra cache be unlocked if it really is a toledo core?? :confused:

Bit gutted how much volts I have to put through to achieve the overclock a lot of people achieve on stock.
My first core seems to be a lot weaker than my second.

Thats prime stable btw, i expect all those except the red on the table are prime stable?
