My girlfriend bought me the starter kid from my local store yesterday...

It's a eGo-Sapphire battery with a CE4 atomizer. Also got 'B&H', 'Apple Pie', 'Energy Cow' and 'Whisky' flavor juices...The Apple Pie flavor is awesome. Only downside I have found is it's so much easier on the ol' throat and lungs, therefore it's so much easier to chase the rush/high you get when you smoke too many fags in a short time...

My 7 pack of CE5's or 6's, can't be arsed checking which, have been dispatched from Fastech and my other 2 Vape things are still waiting with 4 bottles of juice :(

Maybe try a higher nicotine strength on your next batch of juice? Will increase the throat hit and give you that nic rush.

Struggling to decide what kit to buy from Fasttech now. The Innokin SVD or the Vamo V3 along with an Ego evod 6 in 1 kit for out and about use and spare batteries....

Someone on here said they prefer their V2 to the V3 they got, and many prefer the SVD to the V2. I haven't received my SVD yet so can't comment, but I do like my vamo regardless. The general gist of it seems to be that the SVD is better built, but the vamo has a better menu system

There are some decent review vids out that will lay out the differences, but I'll report my opinions when I get hands on. No idea when that'll be, knowing slowtech.

So I've had my Kanger Protank 2 for about a week now and it's oustanding, which makes me want to upgrade some more. I also need to buy my sister one as she only has a crappy little thing so still smokes fags most of the time.

I was thinking an SVD and protank for her from fasttech, but what can I get better than that for myself? I.E. what is the best e-cig I can get? PAPs?

I'm not fussed about looks, only functionality, particularly what creates the most vapour, tastes the best etc

Also how complicated are mods in general, with everyone talking about coiling etc is this necessary?

At the top end, there is a lot of subjective opinion as to "the best" mod. Generally speaking, the provari is the best mod in terms of reliability and function, but they're bloody expensive (£150). The performance would not be 5 times better than an SVD/Vamo, but it'll last for a very long time. You've also got mechanical mods like the Paps which some of the chaps on here swear by, but you don't get the flexibility of variable voltage (without additional bits), and the decent mods aren't cheap either.

What you put on top is the main thing, and that is very much a personal decision. Generally speaking, the best mods will be easier to use and well thought out in design, as well as great performance and durability. The question is what sort of design you want (silica, mesh, dual coil/single coil, dripper, etc), and each comes with its pros and cons

Drippers, for example, are generally hailed as the best flavour you can get, but you have to constantly drip liquid onto the wick as you use it so the wick doesn't dry out (no tank to feed it). Mods designed for silica wick are easy to rewick (no shorts) but the opinion is that silica wicks can muddy the flavour a bit compared to steel mesh. Steel mesh offers a vape with no flavour caste and wicks really well, but can be a PITA to set up (you're trying to wrap a metal coil around a metal wick and not have it short out).

So you can see it's a bit like saying "what's the best car?"

Rewicking/coiling your own mods is a great way to save cash in the long term, as well as allowing you to tweak the device to give the best flavour/performance to suit your usage, so I really recommend anyone who wants a great vape to give it a go with something simple that uses silica wick (I believe you can rewick the heads on your protank). It also means you have an infinite supply of replacement heads so you don't have to wait for the post to show up.

The majority of enthusiast mods assume you'll be rewicking them yourself, so keep that in mind.

TL;DR

There isn't a huge jump in performance from the combo you're already using, but you might want to start out by rewicking your own heads to get a feel for how it all works (as well as other benefits). When you feel comfortable with that, you can start researching high-end mods to find one that best suits the way you like to vape.

interesting. Rewicking/coiling isn't something I'm keen on, so anything to avoid that would be preferable.

i guess a protank ad SVD would be acceptable for that. Just to check, I don't have to do anything with the SVD except recharge the battery right?

From your description a mesh dripper is what I'm after that you can buy replaceable *heads* for so I don't need to do any rewicking. Is this possible?

Finally, in your opinion what produces the most vape in shear quantity, I want clouds of it :D

With mesh, rewicking is the only option. You can't buy heads premade (well, anyway) and it's the most fiddly. That said, stainless steel mesh is my preferred vape (on an RSST with lots and lots of wattage :D)

It's quite a big step, and if you aren't familiar with rewicking at all, or are at all averse to the idea of screaming in frustration until you get your routine in, then I suggest putting mesh wicks to one side for now (especially since you mentioned you don't want to try rewicking yet).

If you want big thick clouds, there is something you can do right now: start using liquids that have a higher VG content. Vegetable glycerine is one of the main components in eliquid and produces the thickest vapour, but is usually mixed in equal parts with PG (propylene glycol) which is a thinner liquid and produces a bit more throat hit. You can sacrifice a bit of throat hit (and have a thicker eliquid, which a few atomiser types don't like as much) to get more vapour. I went through a phase of mixing nearly 100VG liquids, but silica wicks need a bit of PG to thin it out.

It sounds like a dripper might be your thing though. I don't use them myself (too lazy to top them up, and I vape in the car a lot so wouldn't have enough hands), but maybe one of the other guys could make a suggestion.

This is the Igo-L, which gives you an idea of what to expect. You just wrap a coil around some silica wick and squirt some juice down into the well each time you go for a vape.

In all honesty, if you don't want to start rewicking and wrapping coils right now, your best bet is to try some VG-heavy liquids and maybe crank up the voltage a bit (as long as it doesn't taste burnt you're grand)

Well, I find a better throat hit gives me that feeling, but there are only so many ways to go about getting more TH. Some flavours are smoother/harsher than others. And upping your Nic content isn't always desireable. VG generally just gives you thicker billowy clouds of vapour, but without throat hit it's no good to me. Experiment and see what works for you. If you aren't on variable voltage already, I highly recommend a VV device (like the svd you mentioned)

Looks good. My SVD is still in "information received" stage so I have ages to wait yet!

On another note, I've gone back to my Nova, and I have to say it has a very satisfying vape. I still have to deal with the odd burnt flavour every now and then, but in the whole I had forgotten how simple silica was. Popped a 1.6Ohm coil on 3 strands of 1mm silica (free from mesh company with my last order :D) and away I went.

I think the main thing is that my RSST takes ages to get going compared to silica atties, and that really does bug me a bit. I suspect it needs a new wick too (it's been in there for months!)

What's the situation with taking these abroad?

Are the checkpoint people aware of what these are as my Vamo looks pretty mean or like a ***** as my mate calls it :/

I took my vamo and a bunch of novas to Rome on the plane. I think the only thing is that batteries need to be either in carry on or your checked luggage (can't remember which).

Really? I rocked through security with my Vamo sitting on top of my jacket and never even got asked about it. Juice obviously needs to be in plastic bags and under 100ml (I took 50ml with me on holiday) and I'm pretty sure the batteries need to be in your hand luggage as well.

I'm 99% sure this is the recommended way to go.

Solid choices all-round. The iclear 30s are quite decent, but you may find yourself choosing something else later down the line. You could get the svd by itself for a fair bit less and buy a different atomiser like the protank or pretty much anything else if you wanted.

Quick heads-up: that case will be really handy for carrying your juice, spare attys and batteries around (what I use mine for), but it won't fit your SVD. Also, you'll want that easily accessible at all times anyway ;)

2nd heads-up for everyone else: legit Smoktech RSST now on Fasttech for £16. I may have to pick up a second one for experimenting (nothing worse than breaking a good wick/coil setup and finding the new one isn't as good right?)

Still bloody waiting for my SVD :( I knew it would take ages, but the waiting is tough!

Cheers for the other additions hamster I'll make sure I grab those.
I still feel like I'm missing something though. I tend to smoke about 6 rollies a day now (golden virginia) I think the 6mg should cut it okay. When I originally had my cheapy ego from the market I was using their e liquids which are from: http://www.liquid-web.com/products.php?CateId=10

These tasted nice but would occasionally be a bit harsh on the throat and made my teeth feel extremely sensitive/sugary and noticed I had a bit of a cough from it. I was also using 12mg and would occasionally get a bit "high".

Was hoping the dekangs would do me well and get some GVC in the next couple of months in a 50 50 mix which will be a while as I'll have 200ml of liquid or so to burn through as well as the 30/40ml stuff I just got from apollo for £3/£4 on that offer (thank god for having girlfriends who live at a different address)

I prefer to have a liquid that's low in strength so i can cjhain vape, rather than having one thats too high and feeling all spacy when I want to vape more. Start with 6mg, and you can always go up if that doesn't cut it.

Also, the case is still handy. I chuck it in the door pocket of my car or a pouch in my backpack when I'm heading out so I always have spare batts and juice in close proximity. Keeps it all in one place and prevents spills.

Ok, i never did get round to saying thanks or to actually ordering anything regarding a Genesis, Well, i just ordered a RSST from Fasttech.

Now i need wire and mesh. - http://www.vape-atomizer-mesh.com/index.html

Can anyone explain what the difference's are with the mesh? Microns? Marine Grade!? What should I start with, easiest?

Cheers!

Honestly, I'm not an expert on how different grade mesh affects your wick. I have 2 A3 sheets of 400 mesh to get through so haven't tried anything else! Basically, the different mesh has either smaller or larger gaps between the wires.

As for wire, ribbon kanthal is flat, normal kanthal is round. I find ribbon easier to work with, and it's great on silica too. Higher number mean lower resistances so you may need more wraps to get over the 1.2ohm minimum limit for VV mods. I have both .4 and .3 ribbon depending on what I need. .3 is a good middle ground, .4 opens up low res coil options.

Ah i see, i honestly just assumed it was the other way around!

I need some more supplies for the protank heads too.

Are the starter kits they do any good? http://www.vape-atomizer-mesh.com/products/Starter-Bundles-1-1-1-1-1.html

The one for £10 seems to have all i need.... That plus an other couple of different wires and i'm good?

The way to imagine it is that the thicker the wire is, the bigger the tube for the current to pass through is. Or that's how I imagine it anyway :p

Have some nail clippers to hand, as they make clipping wire easy.

Protip: the wire will be held on the spool by a sticker. If you remove that sticker without holding the wire in place, it will unravel everywhere and you'll never get it back. Also, don't trust the sticker after the first use. When you're done, just loop the wire through the middle of the spool to hold it.

Who made the mod-stand? I'm not trawling back thru the posts to find it, but either pass on my details or get in touch via my trust - I wants one!

I've knocked my NautiSig over three times now, it's grinding my gears! It'll need to be smaller than the one for the Vamo, as the Sig is half as tall.

You can name your price, up to £12.

I just use a £2 pen holder from staples. Tubes of varying height so it does the job :)

I'm not entirely certain how/why it happened. Coil looked fine on dry burns... even glow, nice and uniform, yet it still tasted like hell.

Followed the guides I could find to a tee. Must have been a short, initially, due to poor oxidising, and that contributed to burning the grommet. Of course, when the grommet's burnt, it's burnt and that's that, LOL.

Will have another go later this evening and let y'all know how that turns out. Legs shall be twisted!

Make sure they're twisted nice and tight (just don't snap the wire), right up to the coil if you can.

Well, had another go at it today. Must have spent close to two and a half hours trying to get it done. Result: 3 wasted heads due to grommet retrieval, and nothing working properly.

Turned my house into an echoing cavern of expletives with snapped wires while twisting the legs. Eventually got it done, but one of them untwisted/sheared the doubled-up part when fitting together, so that leg burnt the grommet.

Rebuilt again, managed to get both legs twisted, fit together, hit, and once again just tastes like a mixture of licking metal and sucking rubber. Vapour production wasn't bad, though.

So, I've given up. Haven't the time or money to keep throwing heads away like this. I really don't understand how it turns out so badly every time, when you watch these tutorial videos etc. and see people just whacking it together with no problem, taking what appear to be the exact same steps. I just don't get it.

Shame, as I'd hoped to have at least one done before I go away next week.

Mesh is hard enough on a Genny, I'd stick with silica for the protank mate. I had the same experience when I got my RSST, but at some point something clicks and you get it. Go for silica though.

when i was out in york last night i saw a guy using a very posh mod, i cant remember the battery device i think he said it was greek and hard to get hold of, the activation was pressing the bottom of it in, he had a spheroid atomiser filled with wool and some belgian waffle flavour ejuice, it vaped like a train and was delicious. i really want one

http://www.vapourart.com/en/product/gp-spheroid-version-2

Probably one of the golden Greek mods, which are indeed very pricey and hard to get hold of.
