***The Wine Thread***

Where are you guys buying your wine? I've been trying to cut down and have been just buying the incredibly cheap Tore Loco from Aldi since it's reasonable to drink but doesn't make you crave opening a bottle!

I've just been looking on Uvinum which has a decent selection but i priced up 3 bottles and the shipping came to the same as the wine as it was being shipped from 3 different places. Is it only really good i ordering cases?

Yep, Uvinum tends to source from mainland Euro sellers. Best to max out the allowed number of bottles for the delivery cost. They tell you how many more you can add before delivery cost increases.

Their seletion of wines seems great, but I guess they don't hold stock of them all. I'm also put off by the reviews that Uvinum seem to get about their delivery service. I'm sure some people get good service but I'd be nervous to order from them.

It took them a week to get 16 bottles from Germany to me (it was my first time buying from them). In my opinion DHL in Germany are up there with the best couriers. They hand over to Parcel Force. Should be fine.

I have Ahleckz on vivino now, how are you Skeptic, what's your name on there?

I had a tried and tested Sir Passo 2015 last night, good week day drop.

Had a nice Zollo Primi night before, which is stunning value. I'm now #1 in France for Primitivo ratings lol Saying that, I've moved up to 75th in the whole of France overall. Life goals.

I'm Chris W - you'll see me :D

I really need to log my wines more often but very forgetful.

La cuisine wine thread meet?

Haha yes! In italy? Come on, that'd be good...

Just ordered more. Dammit. I picked up 6 of the 62 :o but then thought **** it and got 6 of the 60 as well and 6 Zollas as it was 9euros a bottle and I think I keep drinking them (they're such good value!) and then some others :/

3 of those as well! I got them all from amazon.de in the end! I think over 25 bottles it was 5.90 delivery, so can't complain and the prices were very good as well.

How are your wines going down Ahleckz? You'll see on vivino I had a 2011 hochar tonight - brilliant stuff, and great QPR.

I'm drinking the 2012 Hochar at the minute, been a mad week with work so my first wine!
The flavor is great, nose is brilliant and a very nice drink. However the body isn't all there. Reminds me more of a Beaujolais than anything else in terms of body.
For what I paid, it's a good buy I think.

I may open the 2004 Gaston Hochar tomorrow..

Sounds about right. The musar wines have a very unusual taste profile so pleased you enjoy - totally get the bojo similarities too.

Dr Loosen wehlener sonnenuhr riesling kabinett 2013 for me at the moment- kabinett might just be my favourite riesling style.

I fancied cheap fizz tonight and being very last minute went for what was in the fridge at Tesco.

I'm normally a fan of Freixenet as far as cava goes but tonight i bought the "ice" version in the white bottle.
http://www.freixenet.co.uk/The-Range/Ice/Freixenet-Ice

It's incredibly sweet and not like a cava at all. Made even more depressing by the fact when i googled it just now i saw it's £7.50 in Morrisons compared to the £12 i paid! Not worth it at either price as far as i'm concerned.

Not easy to get hold of in most supermarkets though. I did also buy some Prosecco which was fairly dry.

I need to stock up on more everyday fizz, have only got a few decent bottles in and didn't really want to open them.

The only Cremant i know on the high street is the Aldi one and i've always found it dissappointing.

I can ship you some crates if you like :p I can get a decent 3.5 star cremant for about 5.50Eur and a reallly nice 4 star for about 10.

Trouble with Ice wine in general is, that whole process of extraction means it retains more sweetness from the grape, so you will always get a much sweeter wine. I don't get that trend. Give me dry any day.

I had some nice bottles over the weekend:

https://www.vivino.com/wineries/l-aventure/wines/optimus-2014

https://www.vivino.com/wineries/e-garantita/wines/due-viene-di-coco-2013

https://www.vivino.com/wineries/san-marzano/wines/62-anniversario-riserva-di-manduria-primitivo-2013

Got through 2 bottles of the 62... it's just such a nice wine. Saying that, the 689 is well up there, too. I'd really recommend that to anyone who likes those big reds.

The 2015 Primitivo I had was nice... but didn't quite pack the same hit of some of the others I've had.

L'Adventure was a bloody lovely bottle. Really really nice. I can recommend that, but it comes at a cost.
That can be said for the GB Crane El Coco - but again, that's a real price on that one at $75 a bottle. Really interesting blend though. Nice balance and depth across it and you can pick up the characteristics of each one.

You're gonna regret offering that :p

Was in Waitrose today but only noticed a Rose Cremant which didn't appeal.

I did pop into a local wine shop though who had a bottle of Argentinian Sparkling Chardonnay. Given i like to try as much fizz from different countries i could hardly say no!

Might crack open the 15 Anos Gosset tomorrow :D

Not at all, if I can sort out a decent priced courier at like 10-15 a case, it'll still be very much worth it. You won't get it over there, or anything close for the price.

Let me look into a courier tomorrow and see what I can find. A lot of the things I find in France are about 239720372 euros to get some lazy french gob****e off his arse to post something.

Do let me know if you find one. I'd love to do a pre-Brexit booze run to Alsace (Kientzheim), Champagne, and Burgundy but I'd need to buy ~400 bottles (that's 3 years' supply) to make it cost-effective, and I'd need to hire a van and I'd have to convince HMRC. If I can go there, buy, and get the bottles sent back, then it would be much easier.

(Don't like the new forum style and the way you reply to threads :()

Had a couple of cracking wines over the last few days:
https://www.vivino.com/wineries/hea...nes/limestone-coast-directors-cut-shiraz-2013

https://www.vivino.com/wineries/kleinood/wines/tamboerskloof-2013

including this interesting Italian: https://www.vivino.com/wineries/senatore/wines/calabria-ciro-rosso-classico-gaglioppo-2014
From The Wine Society for £8.75, the Gaglioppo grape is not one I've had before but it was surprisingly good.
