The Witcher 2 - Thread

Hm, just started downloading an extra 2Gb of bonus content on steam.

Ok seems its the "making off" videos and massively high res pictures of Polish people sitting at computers mostly looking very uninterested.

is there something im missing in the combat element?

im geting killed everytime trying to get to the ballista at the begiining.

Span Quen and Yrden signs and drink a swallow potion before you go down the scaffolding, then just run around and avoid getting ganged up on.

Also always try and keep the shield knights trapped with Yrden or Axii them as they seem to be the most annoying.

How do you add enhancements to armor/weapons?

If you didn't work it out yet, you go to the Inventory screen and drag the enhancement to the weapon or armour you want to upgrade. note that not all items can be upgraded. If you try a valid combination it asks you to confirm yes/no.

I only managed to upgrade my body armour and both swords. The first few armours you get arent upgradeable afaik. But the ones you get in chapter 2 can have up to 3 enhancements on them.

edit: overclick beat me to it :P

It's a little dissapointing that if you got moon blade in W1 there isn't a better allround silver sword in the game especially once you add runes to it.

Took me a number of attempts, eventually you will just click a little with the combat. be more cautious and pick them off one by one, use your powers too, i find the lightning one that stuns em works best.

I've given up.

-Can't access dlc.
-poor facial textures(blurry).
-Will not save settings.
-will not save key bindings. (just started up again, looks terrible and none of the buttons do what they should, checked in the settings and it's all back to default and the graphics are all on low)

Just release the ******* patch

Its really quite simple, unfortunately play like any other combat RPG, die, play like a retarded rolling monkey and be invincible at every stage of the entire game.

Roll, hit, roll, hit, roll, hit, how they thought it was better than the first I really don't know, absolute idiots really. The blocking mechanic is completely not needed. At no stage of the game was blocking and countering more effective than rolling around like an idiot or using your X button skills.

The story is ok but predictable(I guess most are now) and the characters are all quite generic.

Combat spoil it for me, you go through a decent wedge of the game as a rolling around like an idiot invincible moron, then later on you become a console style "uber moves", press the X button *** invincible idiot.

The game has zero balance or realism, switch between easy where quite literally everyone can hit you constantly and you never lose health and bosses don't use special moves, to normal and one guy taps you on the back and you lose 1/3rd of your health, while you do the same to him and 1/10th of his health goes. This is with a uber mega sword and the best armour, and its a basic mob yet he can do more damage and take more damage. The harder levels were even more ridiculous.

One thing dev's should aim for, a game where at no stage at all are you invincible, without any threat of death there is no point at all, conversely if the "difficulty" is just making a normal mob with crap armour able to easily beat down "The Champion" while his crap armour makes your legendary sword more like a blunt stick, thats just daft.

This is before you get into the painfully boring fist fights, arm wrestling.

Focused on graphics, which were largely great except the massive amount of pop in on the highest settings, while making combat generally awful and stupidly easy and repetitive.

Meh, the UI was woeful aswell, the painful scrolling of ingredients for a diagram/formula was truly ridiculous, the massive scale of writing making the scrolling necessary. Insanely stupid drinking potion mechanic.

Did you install as admin pighardia?

I am wondering regarding mutagens, are they permanent, do they work like potions, what are the disadvantages of using them?

They are permenant, just be wary because you cannot change the mutagen when you've placed it. I tend to not use mutagens unless they were the "Greater" kind.

Just finished the original witcher (years after I bought it too, curse you WoW...) and well I have to say I did enjoy it despite some rather obvious flaws (recycled character models, recycled locations and running back and forth like a goon in act 4). Now as I imported my save to the witcher 2 I found myself unpleasantly surprised that Sihill (the best steel sword of the 1st game) did not get carried over :(. Also the combat is a touch hard (hint: euphemism). Never found myself dying so often in a tutorial :P.

I also finished the Witcher 1 last night and fighting in the catacombs near the end was ridiculously hard. I had no flint so couldn't light a fire and also my character build was pretty poor..so that left me pretty frustrated by the end. I felt the story was good although the constant running around ruined the flow of it a bit.

Hopefully the Witcher 2 has improved on this, although by the sounds of the combat at the start it hasn't!

You know you can use the igni sign to light the fires?

Nope but I know now! Thanks! Maybe I shouldn't have rushed through the game so much...I didn't even start using alchemy until about act 3 :o

Really? My intellect/endurance/igni Geralt went through enemies like a hot knife through butter. I literrally just ran in spammed igni and moved on with smoking carcasses behind.
