The Witcher 2 - Thread

After finishing Witcher 2 twice and realy enjoying it i thought i would do the witcher as it has been a while :), took me a few days doing all side quests, getting Ravens (Neutral) armour and weapons and was good fun.

I enjoyed the combat a lot more in witcher, the hit and run tactics do get abit old in witcher 2 after a bit . So i got my save game from witcher and decide to import it into the witcher 2 which it accepts and i get ready for my 3rd run through of the game ;)

I got Ravens armour, the 2 best swords in the game, 13k of gold, was level 40 and ready to go, what a let down :(

Someone made off with all my gold, the stats are only a little bit better than the kit you start off with anyway and i liked the way Ravens armour looked originaly. Gonna have to see what difference my choices made as i go along, bit let down as i was expecting a bit better importing my save :(

It seems my game is stuck. It keeps CTD in Act 2 just after I've visited the assassins lair. Crashes at the same place every time :(

I had an issue like that. I resolved it by changing the quest I was focusing on (double clicked on a different quest in the quest log). This trick worked on two seperate crashes. It could just be coincidence, but worth a try.

im stuck in chapter 1. ive got the ostmurk and im told to make the potion although i cant.

what else do i need?

Visit the witch woman in the outskirts of the city in the village near the coast, she sells the stuff you need ;). The same person who talks to you about the talisman

I had this problem to start with and it seems like to have to put it down at the specific distance that the tentacles hit. I was stood out way too far, but when I looked where the tentacle was actually hitting the ground its about over half way in.

As mentioned, about mid way along works good, and make sure you are using it only on the tentacles that have the large bulge midway along as thats the weak spot you need to hit. the 2 tentacles right at the front are not something you need to trap/attack.

Just started again for my second playthrough. It really isn't much fun early on! Parry is starting to annoy me a little bit, am i expected to believe that Geralt can only parry 2 attacks and then he is too tired.

Just had a funny bit- That guy on the top of the tower in the prologue says to Geralt "They say you are the finest swordsman in the north".
"well, i can only hit one person at a time, and it tkes me quite a few hits to kill anyone even in no armour, but i only have to be hit 3-4 times, i can't parry more than 2 hits and i pretty much just roll around for 10 minutes occasionally swiping at people" LOL

I seem to be getting a bug now that i didn't get the first time i played it, Raven's Armour keeps getting replaced after each cutscene. It keeps putting the Blue Stripe top on.

Does anyone know when this next patch is realeased?

To anyone having the issue of password reset email not showing up, I finally got response from the devs. Both the language patch and registration servers are experiencing problems and are being looked into. Did not get any ETA however :(

Yeah I have to say that I MUCH prefer the combat, skill tree, the alchemy, the dice poker, the brawling and the innkeeper storage from the first game.

The story is on par with the first.

The GFX are obviously miles better than the first, the meditation is better and the sex scenes are too :D

So to sum it up. I would say the first game is better.

Also just got an email from CD Projekt:

CD Projekt RED and its sister company GOG.com, the digital distribution platform for DRM-free PC games, are going to reveal some big news just before E3 at their "CDP Summer Conference" live from Los Angeles. The announcements will be made on June 2 at 12:00 LA time (which is 3:00 p.m. EDT or 7:00 p.m. GMT) via Ustream live stream here.

CD Projekt RED will be making a big announcement, and will also have some other exciting things to share during their Summer Conference livecast. CDP RED will discuss some of the successes of the recent launch of The Witcher 2, and will also map out a plan for continued support for the new title.

To watch the stream, on Thursday June 2 around 3:00 p.m. EDT (7:00 p.m. GMT) check this link and hang on for the announcement of the Summer!

Agreed!

They basically derp'd it :(

Derp'ed the skill tree from the 1st one? What? The new skill trees are filled with actually useful stuff, as compared to quite a few obsolete skills in the 1st one. Combat I actually prefer in the second one - I find it far more engaging than hitting that mouse button when a visual/audio prompt pops up. Alchemy got simplified I'll give you that, but I never really bothered with crafting potions in such a way that they gave you additional side effects, so no real change for me here.

I agree that mini games could be vastly improved (i.e. for poker the requirement to have a 1/2/3 point victory lead to defeat the more skilled opponents, brawling requiring faster reaction time and/or longer sequences and arm wrestling having a shorter bar to hover over), but they are filler content so again, not really that important for me.

What I am disappointed is that by end game Igni does become the I-WIN button again. With 8 points of vigor, extremely fast vigor regeneration, and gear centered around improving sign damage Geralt became a walking fireball Gatling gun - sort of made other signs (with the exception of Quen) rather pointless.
