The Witcher 2 - Thread

Yeah, whilst i enjoyed it, to me it definitely felt like there was a chapter missing. The game needed one more city to explore. I remember exploring around Vizima in the first game was great, but there is nothing like that in this game. I found it disappoining after the breathtaking area around Flotsam, that it isn't really built upon at all.
For me, it's an 8/10 game. but another city to explore would make it a 9 probably at least.:)

It makes me wonder why after you make your choice of who to join in chapter 1, you can not go to the other place. I joined Roche, and went to Henselt's camp, which meant i couldn't explore Vergen for some reason. What annoyed me was that it was just a locked door, there was no real reason why you shouldn't go in there to explore. Just seemed like a gimmick to me tbh.

I am on my second playthrough, still in Flotsam atm. Don't want to leave to tell you the truth;)

...it could have been dos based or a room containing a platinum blonde rabbit and a particularly ugly chair at 120*240 and they could still have sold it to you..

I doubt that.

Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic game; it just seems slack to neglect people who game at 16:10 especially when it's a PC exclusive title (for the time being).

Only 60MB or so :)

Has anyone had any problems with the slow-down mode (when pressing control) being a bit laggy since 1.2? The game itself is running perfectly.

Yeah the patch may only be 60MB but the way the files are handled on Steam means you have to redownload the entire 9gb archive. Or at least was the case for the 1.1 patch.

Getting around 17fps with everything completly maxed on a 6950.
Graphics are the best iv seen but i dont want to turn any settings down, which ones could i turn down/off to gain some performance but keep the visuals?

Disappointed Steam haven't got 1.2 patch up yet. And it'll probably be some 9gb monstrosity.

Still nothing from steam it seems.
There's an aweful lot of customer rage on the steam forums as well over it.
Apparently it's because valve/steam don't work over weekends.

I think it's a joke, and if it's another 9GB patch because their patcher craps out on itself I'll not be able to play the game for weeks, given my max download speed is 0.50Mb/s.

And that's why I don't like Steam, or any other digital game download service. I'm on 512Kbps here (max download of 50KB/s), so am a bit happy that I didn't get it on Steam!

Standalone games all the way

the patch made things worse for me, performance dropped and there are now noticeable pauses of 1-2 secs when moving between "zones", that wasn't there before :(

Tell me about it. I was at uni and had no games shop in the town so bought it on steam since the 12Mb/s speed is awesome there.

Now I'm home with a lovely game that won't patch thanks to steam.

I'm tempted to just go guy it retail and stop having to worry about it all.

I am playing the game for a second time now, with patch 1.2 on GOG version. Utterly flawless. On everything maxed (incl. LOD to far) except ubersampling, in 1920*1200, I get even better performance than on first playthrough, it is now around 50 at all times...

Gamepad works flawlessly in all menus now, just awesome. And damn, I am still floored by how beautiful and atmospheric the game is. The new haircuts are awesome too (my favourite is cut hair + ponytail).

Well I'd say the patch would help, specially since they optomized to combat responsiveness and I'm playing on Insane.

I already finished the game on Hard before, so I'm going to pick different routes and people this time round.

I just wish Steam would get their act together and get the patch out for us.

Wow playing on insane...sounds insane :-)

I finished the game on normal, now I am playing on hard, seems alright. I only died once in the prologue.
But playing on insane...no way. I would smash my PC to bits if I died.

The first time I tried it, I accidently stepped in a fireplace and set myself on fire.

Thank goodness it was only 15 minutes into the game, otherwise I'd rage like crazy.

I have noticed I take far less chances though, I'm using traps everywhere I can just to try and soften enemies up as much as possible.
They still take off 50-70% hp if they hit you in the back aswell.

Didn't want to create another thread so hope it's ok to ask this here.

Can this game be resold or is tied to me? Finished it and there's not much point in keeping it as I'll never play it again (even with DLC).

If you have retail version, I suppose you can sell it, since it is DRM free since patch 1.1 and there is no registration necessary.

Strange you would never want to replay, especially since the second/third chapter is so replayable.
