The Witcher 2 - Thread

I really fail at the combat in this.

I didnt pay much attention to the tutorial, but I'm at the part where you have to use the catapult thing (right at the start) and theres about 8 enemies I have to kill. With no replenishing health!

Also Im finding pressing e just completely ineffective. Help please!

For block to be effective you have to:
a) pick the talent that allows you to parry multiple enemies (which at that point you can't yet)
b) have the vigor for it - if you have quen up it's really easy to go through the tiny initial pool of vigor

Best advice I can offer (although since patch 1.2 I'm finding the tutorial section **** easy) is use yrden to disable one, get quen up and slash them to bits.

On my second playthrough atm. Iorveth's path is much better than Roaches. Better characters, better story, better location, better side quests, took much longer as well.

Only problem i had was with the sucubus quest, i got it from that elf, then went to do another quest and it suddenly came up with ..... quest failed:confused:. I know that there are time limits on some quests, but i only went and did one quest. Shame as i have heard it is supposed to be one of the better side quests.

It could still do with one more chapter though, to raise it above a 'good' game, to somewhere approaching a 'great' game. I still don't see why you can't have full access to both areas in the second chapter. Would make the game longer at least. It just seems like a gimmick to me.

I have just finished act 2 and tbh, this is where the game should be starting. In TW, i would have barely scratched the surface:(

Do you think it is possible that they cut a chapter, because i really can't believe they meant it to finish like that?
Obviously they have planned to release an expansion....

IIRC there aren't any hard time limits on the quests, there are just points where side quests will fail if you keep plodding along with the main story.

I think the reason you cant explore the other camp in Act 2, apart from the ethereal war plot device, is that it is supposed to be occupied by an enemy army?

The plot is definitely wide open for a Witcher 3 though as...

Spoilers!

The north is in complete disarray, several kings have died and it is under threat from the south. Geralt finds out that Yennefer is alive somewhere in Nilfgaard and that the Nilfgaaardians are behind the school of the vipers assassinations. Plus some misc info about the Wild Hunt being elves from another dimension / world.

Oh yeah, i know that, but in roach's path you do meet Saskis and she is friendly to you and on Iorveth's path when you are in the camp, Henselt is well, not friendly but agrees to let you go and offers safe passage, also Roach is friendly to you as well. Not much of a leap to allow you to acces the areas and quests.
I was a bit miffed when playing Roach's path and i couldn't enter Vergen and it just seemed like a locked door was the only reason.

I agree, the plot is wide openwhich is good, but don't you think the game needed at least a little bit more resolution? And at least one more city/village to explore.

Just wondering if you need to have played witcher 1 to get the storyline?

I am also wondering if the game is for me as i enjoyed the me1/2 + dragon age 1/2 customise options/storylines ?

How about relationships etc in this one?

Playing the Witcher 1 is not needed, but it surely helps in understanding what's going on and the relationships you have with some of the characters you meet in the game.

I enjoyed DA1, hated 2, never played ME series. I have to say though this game beats the pants off the DA saga for me.

I haven't really liked a Bioware game since NWN and KOTOR, after that they went down hill for me.

Storylines is very good and complex and a decision like sparing someone's life in the start can echoe down to the final chapter as well.

Keep the mind that the game system is very different between the two, specially the combat.

The most important part is the storyline really. You can also import you Witcher 1 save game.

Just tried the new CAPs and it hasn't fixed the lighting thing for me. :( Still not getting full GPU usage either so hoping that 11.6 will be better.

Well I finished it just now. The ending arrived with a surprise though. I just didn't see it coming after I took out the big bad via Ioveth's path. Looking forward to maybe an expansion pack.

Just like I felt about Witcher1, this would have been my GOTY if it wasn't so short. I hugely loved playing through the game, despite the fact that I'm saddened that I couldn't even finish a full skills tree.

I went with Roche on my first play through and that took me 42 hours. Mostly because I like to explore everything I can and play the mini games haha.

I'm on my second play-through now with Ioverth, sadly it's another one on Hard.

I originally planned my second play through on Insane, finished everything in chapter one, cept for the Kayran and then died there near it's end when a rock hit me. So another go at Hard, then I'll probably have perfected my technique at the game to try Insane again.

I think the Dev's are due to release a new patch this month...at least according to catalyst creators twitter.

Oh and 11.6 is due out next week, possibly wednesday.

It's not the end of the world, it's still perfectly playable but it's such a great game I'd like it if these things were sorted so I'll look forward to that.

I've had a nasty control bug a couple of times recently as well. The controls just completely freeze, it happened once while I was fighting the Arachas. I've also had this thing where the sword select doesn't work in the quick select menu. Anyone else had this?
