The Witcher 2 - Thread

Is this the same patch I downloaded in January? I cannot find a verison number but the readme says 2.1 and that was downloaded on the 29/1. Not really understanding why you are all getting it now ?!? Retail boxed CE edition which I remember it taking about 2 evenings to install at the time, but then I went back to Skyrim and it kind of got forgotten about...

Gonna start my second run through of this game at the weekend I think and do the other path.. looking forward to it! witcher 2 is an amazing game.

This is my 4th, first 2 on hard for Roche/Iorveth and the 3rd was a fail on Insane haha.

Now to do both paths on Dark.

Seems to be an AMD issue, quite a few reports about it.

That's a pity really, is it a driver related issue?

It's not the same patch, the Enchanced Edition was only recently released.

Playing dark diffculty and just finshed the entire Blasphemers' set.

When you draw either of the swords the game goes all dark and spooky with weird sounds.
The swords drain life from the victim and heal you. Although if the entire set is not complete and swords drain your life if drawn.

Any idea where in game I can check the version, given that I have a 2.1 readme I would assume I have the latest. My Launcher doesn't want to recommend an update so I'm not totally sure what I have.

Just click new game, if the Dark difficulty is there you have the Enhanced Edition.

As that new difficulty also has new items and sets.

You can also use your Key to get a GOG backup copy, which means you can always redownload the game from them and it's the EE.

There is something terribly wrong with the graphics in those shots.

Zero anti-aliasing. No texture filtering. Weird grid artifacts/sharpening effect.

I can recommend turning off ingame AA+ sharpening and using SMAA injector, it works pretty well with no performance hit. The sharpen effect is really bad.

That grid thing I've seen in nearly all screenshots.

I've everything set to Ultra, bar AA and Ubersampling.

Set FXAA instead.

Edit: Just noticed sharpening was still on in the config. Turned it off and that grid look has been drasticly reduced.
Although I think I might prefer the game with sharperning on. I don't usually stand around staring at the tiny grid it can make.

I started to play the new version on the PC, but i find it a bit cumbersom control wise even with a pad, plus the game was a bit spotty , ie lag etc in places.
So on impulse today bought the 360 version, and ive got to say im impressed, simpler interface, and a bit smoother control wise, and doesnt look half bad either.

Once has to remember at best the Xbox game is running at a res of 720, at worse its 480 upscaled.

I'm sure if any of us ran the game at a res like that with a mix of medium - high it'll run smoothly as well.

Strangely I prefer the keyboard and mouse controls. I guess I'm just use to it all.

I emulated xbox settings on my PC (1280*720, medium settings) and had 120fps...compared to 30 on xbox.

Of course, when putting it at 1920*1080 + ultra I am happy for 40 fps :-)

Yup, the game runs surprisingly well on PC's around 40 FPS and up.

Me too.

I mapped middle mouse button to Aard, side button 1 to Quen and side button 2 to Igni, made things a lot easier.

I do the same, except I'm not a fan of Igni for some reason.

Although on a note of the Dark difficulty, it's still a little too easy for my liking. :(

Especially once you get a full set of Blasphemer's, you just tear through everything. Even the Letho fight in the ruins was easy. Once you get reposte, you can just hammer letho into a corner and tear him a new one thanks to the swords regenerating your health on each hit that causes damage.

They do try and balance it out a bit, you can only add one upgrade on the Steel sword, none on the silver but the main chest piece can take 3 upgrades.

So once I put some +2 armour ones in there I'll be set for longer.

Quite so, it's how ports are supposed to be done.

Start on the PC, get the best performance and visuals you can then spend time after that optimizing it for the console's specific hardware.

It took them a year, but it looks and runs well on the 360. It's amzing work for such a small company with such a small budget.
