The Witcher 2 - Thread

Quite so, it's how ports are supposed to be done.

Start on the PC, get the best performance and visuals you can then spend time after that optimizing it for the console's specific hardware.

It took them a year, but it looks and runs well on the 360. It's amzing work for such a small company with such a small budget.

It's not exactly a small company though.

CD Projekt Red are owners of GOG.com and the largest distributor of video games in Poland (and have presence in a few other countries too). They used to own one of the most popular online video game shops and have done dozens or even hundreds of full translations of games. PC is a surprisingly popular gaming platform over there.

I think they had a couple of other gaming studios in the works too but they were either disbanded or merged into CD Projekt Red. Metropolis Software were working on that shooter, THEY, but the development has been suspended from what I can find.

Glad to see a great reception of the Xbox 360 port.

Considering the Budget for the Witcher 2 was a mere $8 million, they did a fantastic job, especially compared to the those huge budgets from rival companies.

I bet the development cost was also noticeably lower than it would be if they were to hire a studio in the UK or the US plus they really cut down on advertising and such.

It still sold in large quantities though, over a million copies on PC from what I remember.

Am i the only one who uninstalled the EE (and the game obviously), reinstalled up to 2.1 patch and got free from tragic texture pop in, frustrating combat mechanics (one hit and your fully upgraded Quen is gone..) and super heating GFX card (10 degrees difference guys...)
2.1 version is all i need, thank you very much.

I will miss the four hours extra story, though.

lol this is hilarious, the 'enhanced edition' constantly tries to reinstall direct x and even when I do get into the game my game save is gone and it stutters like crazy. Don't have time to repair and fix this rubbish, back to tribes I go.

I take it you're using Steam?

I had the same problem, althought direct x it had to constantly reinstall .Net as well.

Deleted it from steam and got my free backup copy from GOG instead, not problems since then at all.

I've been playing the 2.0 version of the game I bought from pc works for 18 quid last week. Pretty good game, certain things frustrate me though, can't go in water?wtf. Controls are a little annoying sometimes.

I also get the grid pattern over the whole game, very frustrating!

That's the shaperning effect, you can turn if off in the config file.

Although for me the effect isn't that bad, it actually makes the game look better, otherwise it looks plasticky for me

Thanks I will check out the Ini files. Probably won't upgrade to the EE I'm running out of disk space!

Just remember to set it to read only when you're done, otherwise if you go into options on the launcher it can reset a lot of your changes.

As sharpen is usually on along with AA or off with AA off.

I can't even remember downloading the sodding EE but I have it. When did it get released on Steam?

I ran the game for the first time this morning since I last completed it during its release only to find my last savegame gone. I was pretty cheesed off by this and even more cheesed off that I couldn't redefine the keyboard controls as I don't use WSAD. Not sure what I used to play W2 last time but I'd guess it was the 360 controller.
