The Witcher 2 - Thread

Witcher 2 is a good looking game, for sure. However Syrim runs much quicker and smoother then Witcher 2 and IMO both games look visually stunning - just that the Witcher 2 is more detailed when you actually take notice of what is on the screen...

Witcher 2 runs smooth and fast for me. Maybe you're mistaking the motion blur for poor performance?

i've just been playing this recently since the EE is finally out now - i've actually owed it since release last year but never got round to playing it then waited until the EE came out to get the full experience - i've got all the settings on max including ubersampling and it is running like a dream - my god in all of the games i've ever played (and that is a hell of a lot) i've never seen something looks so beautiful - literally the forest around Flotsam is just breathtaking...

They say graphics aren't everything - that couldn't be more correct, the first witcher game is still awesome despite the age and (by today's standards) rather primitive engine but bloody help they don't hurt when they look this good - i'd be hard pushed to look back now i've seen what a PC game can really do when you match brilliant story with equal levels of visuals and a kickass publisher! </endasskissing>

I think that this is probably the best done Forest I've ever seen in a computer game, it really feels alive. :)

Yes that was quite impressive... When you look up and towards and the trees reach up, it looks really picturesque. The foliage moves, the paths are just like real nature trails, loved the waterfall area, even tree tops looked real..

No doubt, certainly a lovely looking game.

Can anyone give me tips on what sort of settings I should run this game on my rig? Just can't seem to find the right balance... Really putting me off playing it.

8GB DDR3

Cheers

Turn off all depth of field settings.
Turn SSAO off.

That should be enough...depth of field reduces fps a fair amount and also ubersampling always have off.

Just about to start chapter 3 of Roche's path, quick question though.

End of chapter 2, choice between helping Iorveth in the town hall, was tempted to help him but didn't. Anything happen in Act 3 that was worth helping him out for?

I have a save just before the choice.

Although the Roche changes are quite cool in parts, I am really having to fight the urge not to go with the Elves again as the humans are just complete *****! They insult non-humans every second sentence so it's hard to find any appeal to help them :/

I want to do another playthrough but have the same thoughts. The humans are ***** in TW2. I sided with humans in TW1 and had a niggle of guilt afterwards. :p

Iorveth is plain awesome - excellent bit of character development through the story IMO. I'll have to force myself to play through again and side with Roche just to see how the story pans out.

Can someone explain what this "Dark" mode is all about? Is it like a hardcore mode?

Well, I can't play this game at all. Normal difficulty and I get my ass handed to me in nearly every situation, health seems to drop incredibly fast and I have no clue how to restore it. o.O

You need to use Quen (map it to a spare mouse button, you'll be using it a lot), and you need to either use block or roll away after getting hits in - this isn't a game where you can get away with button mashing to win fights. Also, getting behind enemies helps.

I felt extremely frustrated at first too, the learning curve is steep but it becomes immensely rewarding once you get used to it. :)
