The Witcher 2 - Thread

Keep trying, i admit it was tricky in some areas but you just have to master your evading mostly and use your signs a lot.(it's such a good game, do not give up :p put it on easy if need be)

Tried tried tried... and failed again.

I don't think this game is for me. :(

What are you struggling with, general combat vs mobs or are you at a boss fight?

Watch some Youtube videos to pick up tips, it's what I ended up doing.

Basically, I mapped Aard to MMB, Quen to Mouse4, Igni to Mouse5. Aard is handy for stunning and a bit of crowd control - it allows you to get in finishing moves if you successfully stun an enemy. Quen will make you much tougher for fights.

Also make sure you're using potions before any big fights and that you're using the correct sword for the right enemy (Silver - Monsters/non humans, Steel for Humans), otherwise you have no hope!

+1

Also, don't be tempted to try and one-combo an enemy. Hit and run tactics are a must in this game. Hit two or three times, max, roll to safety, aard, and repeat.

Oh I also tried a little bit of Arena at the weekend. Bloody hell it's very cool! Not what I was expecting really, very polished and with good variation.

Just picked this up in the local Morrisons for seven quid! PC Premium boxed edition too. The shrinkwrap was slightly torn, with the slip on 'advertisement' cover being damaged as a result. No damage to the actual box or anything inside, but I still suspect it was reduced because of the visible 'damage'. Chuffed to bits.

I just need to get around to completing the first one now... I think I'm still in Vizima Swamps, seem to remember trying to get some unique sword, but got the poo-poo kicked out of me by a load of monsters that were around it. Several times :(

Anyway, I'm running a Q6600 (G0 stepping), 275GTX, and a paltry 4GB of RAM. Would I be able to run TW2 smoothly?

:eek:Best £7 you will spend this month.... Did they have anymore.. :D

Funnily enough, that was the only one there I saw at the time, it was bunged into a free-standing games stand with all the budget educational games and old dross. Mate working in the same office as me managed to snag a copy the week before, exactly same scenario, only it had no shrinkwrap or cover, just the actual box itself sealed with a sticker.

God, I hated that area - whoever designed it should be shot!

As for running it on your rig, should be OK but you may have to drop settings down a fair bit. On my spec, the GPU was getting toasty with all settings max except for Ubersampling. What res are you running at?

Witcher 2 is as good an excuse as any for a GPU upgrade IMO. ;)

Guys thinking of picking up this game. Was wondering what the best price i can get this at?

£30 on steam seems a bit steep, any recommendations?

Ohh and what’s the difference between the normal and the enhanced edition? £5 difference.

Native res is 1680x1050, so will hopefully aim to run smoothly on that. Not too bothered about having AA and similar on in games, so I can usually drop that down a fair bit.

Enhanced edition has about another 4 hours of content, apparently. I played the original version, bah!

You could wait for a special on steam, it's bound to come around again soon. Otherwise others may have suggestions.

Enjoy, BTW, one of the best games I've played in recent times, although as mentioned above, it's a VERY steep learning curve at first. The first game doesn't really help much in preparing you for the very different combat system. Be prepared to swear at the screen lots in the first hour or two. :)

Just buy the normal one, unless you hate downloading. The content for the Enhanced Edition is a free update, but it's pretty large. If you just want to install and play, then by all means stump up the extra cash. :)

Hmm, not certain if the game is actually Steamworks? Maybe someone else could chime in on that. My on-disc version certainly wasn't, however with all normal edition copies you can also put your key in on GOG.com for a free online backup of the Enhanced Edition.

There really is no need to purchase anything but the original release, if you can find it cheaper.

Just downloading the enhanced edition patch, played through once last year and took the Roache path so will have another playthrough with EE patch and I'll take Iorveths path this time. Does the EE patch add much content in the way of new quests etc? with a file size of 10.55GB I'm hoping for loads more to do.

I need to play through Roche's path, I went with Iorveth and really enjoyed it. Might have to start another playthrough tonight. :)

With the 2 different path's and now this EE patch definitely worth a couple of playthrough's imo. Personally quite enjoy the slightly more focused/linear approach of the Witcher games. I find it's easier to become more immersed in the main storyline than it is in completely open world games such as Skyrim/Oblivion.

It means the game has been much improved. Make sure you have 3.2 version.
And both control methods are good, personally I prefer x360pad, more comfortable for me. Others might disagree or agree, everyone is different.

enhanced has new items straight into your inventory, (after the prologue if I remember rightly) a few hours extra gameplay and arena mode (I think, I got it as a whole so just assumed everything came with it.)
