The Witcher 2 - Thread

Just played it for the last 8 or 9 hours.

It's amazing, I think. GOTY. Just got a few niggles with the combat still and performance could be much better though. But overall I've found it perfectly playable.

I have to agree. Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 will have to produce something very special to trumph this.

Same, I'm mostly in the 30 - 35 FPS range and I'm finding that quite decent. It's a bit weird in this game, it doesn't feel as choppy as other games do at those levels of FPS. Also yes definitely a front runner for GOTY, Skyrim and ME3 are the only games that could beat this and as Garee said it'll take something quite special to do it.

I noticed my frame rate dip down to 18 - 20 at times and it wasn't choppy at all which is good, quite a nice surprise.

As you guys say, Skyrim and ME3 will have to do something amazing to trump this.

About 8 hours in and still in Flotsam. Taking my time and enjoying the experiance. Defo GOTY, cant see anything coming close this year.

Indeed I am getting a hang on the combat. a couple points in the riposte talent thing made the world of difference. It is very much the witchers sequel - from the art, the characters, the tone and the detail. Such a good game and I am barely anywhere with it so far.

First portal 2, then section 8 out of nowhere then this. bring on the rest of the year.

Lol if you want to be cheeky and got the collectors edition then its probly in the free guide you got with it xD

Not looked at it myself but could be worth a peek if you get stuck.

Should manage ultra without ssao/motion blur/ubersampling on at 40-50fps or so at 1920x1080 res.(use 275.27 drivers they are brilliant.)

I really wish i had a 3d monitor now due to this game as the scenery would be breathtaking.

Brilliant :D
although I'd like to try the SSAO and motion blur, Kotaku just showed me how astounding this game looks!

I havent even left the first village and ive been playing for 14 hours... WOW.

Im playing on normal and so far combat has been really easy. I always quick save, thats something everyone should do so you dont run into problems like not drinking the potion before the kayren. Which btw is a very easy fight. The kingslayer... NOW THATS DIFFICULT, but it forced me to become pro at the controls so im ok with that :)

Word of warning for steam users. Download the dlc asap or else youll get to a point where you cannot complete it which I just discovered... it also appears to be linked to another quest which you cannot complete without it, frustratingly.

Launch the launcher with admin privelages, click downloadable content, click troll trouble, click download, click install... I thought I had to enter a code so I didnt bother with it >< Ah well.

Does anyone know what the medallion you fix does?

All the reviews making me more excited. My wife has the game hidden around the house as I am not allowed to play it until the 26th as it is a birthday present from the kids.

Is anyone (who doesn't have an uber rig) really using SSAO? I get about an extra 4-5 fps when I turn it off, not sure if it really (visually) makes a huge difference?

Came into my first game breaking glitch last night. I got stuck in walk mode out in the forest. Safe to say, I got raped. Was so annoying. Couldn't draw my weapons or anything.

Anyone find the hand to hand QTE fighting totally out of place for the sort of game ? Its so easy as well. Its such an awful mini game. What were they thinking?

All the mini games seem a little flawed to me:

Fist fighting - insanely easy
Arm wrestling - mouse lag and just not fun
dice game - far too easy to roll the cide outside of the box and have them not count

Hit a moral decision last night that I was really unsure about.

Spoilerz:
Doing the quest in the forest outside of Flotsam where you have to find the two fellas at the old hospital. Really not sure which way to take the quest. I'm half tempted just to take them to the wraith but at the same time I don't feel that I should be condemning them to death, even if they are murderers/rapists. Spent about 10 minutes on the decision screen before deciding I was better off going to bed.
