The only thing I can say is that there was a bug which made it detect the wrong settings, but I was sure that was patched out. Regardless, my rig is not as good as yours(pii x4, 6950, 8gb ram) and can run it on ultra at slightly lower res(without ubersampling)

Just played this for the fist time on my new pc and it looks awesome.
1 thing though it makes my GPU temps sore! it hit 80'c on this game
where as BF3 will only hit 65'c when my rooms gets warm.
Anybody else notice this?
Nope, that's rather odd. Do you have Ubersampling on by any chance?

Well in relation to this second bit, seems my .NET framework was corrupt or something, kept doing first time set up each time started game, had a google round and used the .net framework cleanup tool to fix it, that problem solved (just in case anyone else has similar)
Still strange how auto settings selects low gfx setting, as I say it runs fine on high, trying ultra now which I expect will also be fine
I'm trying out the arena at the moment. Now is it just me or is combat vs a group insanely difficult in this game? I'm trying to use Quen, Aard , rolling about a lot and trying to avoid being ganged up upon but I get to the Scoiatel group and it's just impossible.
Easy is too easy, but Normal really seems like it should be "hard" or "pro".
Any tips for combat as I'm getting a bit annoyed with the combat mechanics in all honesty. All the rolling about is bringing back memories of 8 bit Barbarian! I'm using kb+mouse btw.

Well, after much pain, I'm quite enjoying the combat now. It's annoying how unresponsive it can be sometimes, ie: when you need to cast a sign. But hey, at least it's realistic in that you have to get around the back of mobs with shields.
Just thought I'd post again in this thread. 
I almost quit the game in rage at the Letho fight after dying 25+ times, so I loaded a previous save game and decided to explore the area a bit more, picked up some more side quests and some better gear aong the way, as well as using more alchemy.
I admit to looking on other forums to see how other people were finding this fight and saw LOTS of rage and slating of the developers. That's how I initially felt but in all honesty, I now feel a bit stupid seeing as they've obviously pitched this game at those with a bit of patience and willingness to tackle the learning curve.
This is an absolutely stunning and immersive piece of work and I'm really enjoying it now. It's strange playing a "difficult" game again now considering the last time I remember games being consistently challenging was the 90s.

I even watched youtube videos with tutorials on how to pass said fight.... Which is preety lame and i am ashamed of it...
Uninstall the game and do a fresh install, enter your activation key (or just anything since it is DRM free) then allow it to connect to the internet and it should automatically download the latest patches (currently v2.1 I think).
Started properly playing this last night and so far yes the game looks the dogs danglies but I hate the interface and it is so obviously designed for a console so yeah not impressed but I loved the first so much I will stick with it and see how it goes.

I found the 1st game a bit tricky to get into but it was massively satisfying to complete.
No.2 is just amazingly epic - I can't believe I've played 24 hours and I'm only on chapter 2!!!
I'm going for sword tree with the Witcher skills and a few from magic (ie: Quen upgrades) and the bomb damage upgrade. I reckon that should work nicely.
Having played this a bit more I still prefer the combat system from the first game in you had 3 styles to pick from (one specifically dealing with groups of bad guys), I find using throwing daggers and bombs twitchy at best for the most part.

Just completed this - all I can say is wow! Some really tough decisions to make!
I'm quite satisfied with my playthrough, not sure if I'll do another, at least not for a while.

Sided with Iorveth, let the mob batter Stennis to death, grudgingly spared Sile, saved Saskia and let Letho go.

witcher 2 is the only game is bothered to replay recently, 3 times now and planning to do again with enhanced edition. i didnt find it particularly hard though, played on hardest difficulty, started off a bit tricky then just got easier and easier as i leveled up, for my second and third playthrough i downloaded mods to make it harder, then it was about right. i dunno what the big deal is with letho or the kayran.
Letho was a big deal at first for me, extremely frustrating, but then I was not expecting the combat to actually require a bit of thought (seeing as I'd played the first Witcher game and was used to the combat method used there).
The Kayran took me 5 or 6 attempts before I realised what I had to do after sorting out the tentacles.
The only disappointment for me was that it seemed to end so quickly. I was expecting a few more chapters in all honesty. I note the game saves at the end so I presume TW3 is in the works.
I might replay next week and go along with Roche. I really liked Iorveth's character by the end though so I think I'd feel a bit guilty about doing the other playthrough!

I have always wanted to give this game a go, seeing as I enjoyed Skyrim.. Problem I have is I've heard its quite brutal with system specs, one of the few games that requires a good spec PC.
I am for reasons I've gone into before consigned to a laptop for my gaming at the moment and its got a 1GB ATI 5650 GPU with an i5 CPU.
I just didn't want to buy it, to find out I need to play on ultra low res and settings. I don't mind playing at 1280 x 720 provided I can up the details to high or ultra, but I've heard this game does need a REALLY good GPU.
Upon saying this, they said this about BF3, yet my laptop ran this DX11 at 30fps at high - granted 1280 x 720 lol
Maybe stick with Skyrim - ??

Just finished this. Was very well made, but the ending was such a damp squib. I sided with Iorveth and played on normal up til that big fiery general in the ghost battle, then I played it on easy to get it finished. Had it since release. Once again there was no point to potions (except cat) or oils, like in TW1. I think they should have left magic out so you had to use swords and traps/potions. Also, it got really confusing with all the characters towards the end, but I did play the game over a few months, maybe even a year?
I would have liked to have seen the repercussions of letting the dragon live, and there was no dialogue after killing Letho? Will have to wait for TW3 I guess.

Even playing Witcher 2 on low settings the game looks lush! They have managed to scale things incredibly well.
