The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Just started playing this one (5 hours in) loved the first two, this one seems decent so far apart from some issues with the overall movement of the character.
The card game is awesome , I heard you can pick them up in real life but cant seem to find them at all? Anybody know of a UK stockist?

I don't think they're sold on their own, I believe they did a couple of packs with the collectors edition and they did the same with a collectors edition of the expansion. However if you'd purchased the expansion electronically you could get a code that allowed you to purchase them (which I did), but that offer expired 05/11. Think your only option is eBay.

Exclusive from Game for 15 with the expansion, you can buy them separately from another stockist but after import costs it's a better deal to just buy the expansion

Can I continue playing and do the DLC after finishing the main storyline? Or do I have to do everything first before getting to "end game"?

You can play the main storyline & HOS at the same time as the quests appear in the same list so you can flit back & forth at will, HOS quests are marked in blue

HOS: God that mage almost made me rage quit! The first two "bosses" are more of a challenge than anything else so far in the game.

the games dont exactly follow the books to a T, they are their own entity and people will, generally, play them as such. And as such people can only judge characters based on what they see in the games. It's all a bit needless pointing out things in the books when the games are only an adaption of the original stories.

All Sapkowski actually saw of The Witcher video games was artwork, he revealed, but said it was "a sight to behold". His role was therefore "not enough to call it cooperation". "I don't feel like a co-author of the game," he said, so all plaudits must be directed at CDPR.

The Witcher game told an alternate story with The Witcher world. Was Sapkowski happy with it?

"The game - with all due respect to it, but let's finally say it openly - is not an 'alternative version', nor a sequel. The game is a free adaptation containing elements of my work; an adaptation created by different authors," he noted.

"Adaptations - although they can in a way relate to the story told in the books - can never aspire to the role of a follow-up. They can never add prologues nor prequels, let alone epilogues and sequels.

"Maybe it's time to set the matters straight," he went on. "'The Witcher' is a well made video game, its success is well deserved and the creators deserve all the splendour and honour due. But in no way can it be considered to be an 'alternative version', nor a 'sequel' to the witcher Geralt stories. Because this can only be told by Geralt's creator. A certain Andrzej Sapkowski."

I am not a big RPG fan but because I have no games to play at the moment I am thinking of buying this. Back when it was released I was watching some streams and it seemed like there where way too many cut scenes and I found it a bit boring.

So, should I get it? If I do decide to buy this, should I get the DLC's too? And lastly, I am not familiar with mods etc, should I bother? Are they any good?

If you haven't completed either 1 or 2 I wouldnt bother. It's more of the same as the last two and if you never cared enough for them then it seems pretty unwise to start now.
If anything get two for cheap and see if you connect with it.

Personally they are awesome games with some of the best questing out there....but you don't like RPGs so I fail to see what you would get out if this game.

Nope, haven't played 1 or 2. I am just looking for a single player game to suck me in.

I'd partially disagree with this. I've never played 1 & 2 yet loved 3, though I'm sure I would have even more out of it if I had played them. Definitely not a reason by itself not to try the game.

Then again, I agree that if this person doesn't like RPGs (and also thought the cut scenes looked boring), then maybe not a wise purchase.

My point was that you're taking it all a bit seriously. Just enjoy.

I think its fantastic that a game can have such great characters that it does cause people to think like this, few games do. Its generally fine for people to analyse characters in a film or book, why not a game.

It is kinda irrelevant what Sapkowski things about games - what matters is that CDP writes games as book sequels (especially TW3) and it follows directly from them, so to discount it completely would be strange.
Also, that eurogamer interview was 4 years ago. Since then, Sapkowski wrote a new book (Season of Storms) which is completely compatible with games, story-wise, and TW3 netted him millions of new book sales. I would not be surprised if he changed his mind on this.

Indeed, especially when it is actually better written than most games or movies for that matter.

Look, this is not some hardcore turnbased RPG that would turn you off. This is third person immersive RPG with plenty of action and exploration. If you enjoy games like Last of Us or Read Dead Redemption, then you will enjoy Witcher 3. And because Witcher 3 is actually better than even those games, I am fairly sure you will enjoy it. As long as you have decent attention span.

You will get 16 smaller DLCs for free, then there are two expansions, one is released (Hearts of Stone) and it is brilliant. Better than most full AAA games.
