The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Might depend where they are getting the 8% from, is there anywhere that actually tells you the % of the main quests complete? I've not played on steam but I know GoG shows you the % of achievements complete, which means little.

Played about 30 hours and have reached level 12 and finished all the quests I've found in Velen. Got a fair few level 30+ side-quests to do.

Just reached Novigard. Going to get my Griffin armour/items sorted out and then see how Triss is doing. Didn't get into the Witcher 2 for some reason, but loving this one.

Really nice break from MMOs like World of Warships and armoured warfare.

Probably the same reason I couldn't get into Witcher 2. Boring start, very little explanation in the menu system. Just plonked into the game and left to do your own thing after a brief combat tutorial.

That's simply not possible. Unless you're role playing by walking everywhere, talking to all NPC's and reading every single text there is...

I'm about 60 hours in, on the final quarter of the main story. I've got a shed tonne of side missions to do and contracts etc. But still, not enough for another 60 hours I'd say.

I'd almost go as far to say you're telling porkies...

i've done every treasure/?/side quest/contract in White Orchard, even the extra ones from buying books.

ive done 30% of every treasure/?/side quest/contract in Velen. Expect for the ones In higher than my level. Even bought all the books that appear from every vendor that contain quests or bestiary information.

i do not read these but use them to find extra missions.

Ive done around 1% of treasure/?/side quest/contract in The main Skeillege town.

My Main quest level is 12? i think. im currently lvl 27 & just done 3 missions in skelillge?

Ive found at least another 40+ quests from books. I do fast travel but only if its over 800+ away then i use my horse. I talk to all vendors & play gwent with everyone i can.

I gave this GOTY a while back, Then Game of the Decade from my opinion of course. but i think it might actually get Best game ive every played.

Really been enjoying this, combat isn't perfect, but better then no.2 and light years ahead of no.1 :D

Gotta say though, the Bloody Baron and the Botchling quest, wow! That quest really grabbed me

Odd, sounds like we are at similar points... However, I'm much further ahead in the main story and probably have a lot more contracts to do.

I too agree about the game. It's now my fave game of all time.

Started this again this is my 3rd play though and haven't even completed it once I'm back to where I was on my 1st play through but can't believe how much I missed before.

How are people playing this game - is it a keyboard and mouse job or is it better played with a gamepad?

Also, are there any advantages to having it on Steam as opposed to GoG? The Steam price seems crazy in comparison (especially now the Steam sale has gone!)

I kept switching between the two.
Parts of it just didn't seem to work that well on Keyboard and Mouse.

I'm a little disappointed about how long I need to wait for the DLC however...

anyone got an auto loot mod that works? I want something to auto pick plants for me, I downloaded JupiterTheGods auto loot mod from the witcher 3 nexus which had good things said about it, manually installed it following all the steps to the letter and it doesnt work!

Loving the game just fed up with the hassle looting all the plants is becoming!

212 hours played here. Finished main campaign & a lot of extras. Still have to get around to playing the DLC tho. My first Witcher game and am now definitely a massive fan. The sheer quality of every ounce of this game is astounding.

Had a go on this last night and I have to say I'm really liking the look of it!

Are there any noob tips or guides around? Only played it for around an hour and pretty much found myself following the path and picking things up on the way!

Is it a good idea to collect everything you can or is there a limit to what you can carry? (there are obviously LOADS of collectables en-route and I don't want to not pick something up in case later on it tells me I need 100 "whatevers" and I end up having to go back!)

Also, not played much in the way of 3rd person games so am finding the keyboard and mouse action a bit awkward (rolling into dead-ends etc while trying to escape something) - is combat etc a bit easier with a 360 gamepad?

Any tips appreciated - I really want to get into this! :)

There are weight limits but these can be increased by finding or buying better saddlebags. I collect everything to start and then sell of the crap, which is pretty much 90%.
Rolling can be a pain in tight situations, use direction buttons(wsad). Also, not that great when fighting, use dodge, rolling leaves to big a distance between you and your victim.
Decide how you want Geralt's skills to be and then apportion points accordingly. I usually op for the Signs build more so than strength and speed with the sword. You can at a later stage of the game acquire a potion to reset your points, if you are not happy with your current build.
Best tip I can give, is to balance out your side missions/contracts with the main mission. The ?'s I tend to do as many of them as possible, in the area of any contract or mission, saves going back and forth to many times.

Pick up plants and stuff you find in the first 10 hours, they aid in making potions, pots etc. Put the difficulty to death march or the one below to make the game actually challenging.

Don't plough through the main story as you'll level up pretty sharpish and out level side quests. Do indeed hunt down the '?'s laying around on the map. But, don't beat your self up if you can't take down a group of enemies the same level. It's meant to be tough and areas with higher level enemies. It's not like Skyrim with dynamic enemy levels based on your own.

Listen to people, listen to the dialogue. It's some of the best I've ever seen and skipping through cut scenes/chats just removes the charm of this game.

In terms of build, remember to place skills in the slots with matching mutagens to gain a bonus.

As for skills, don't fret about making a few mistakes, later in the game you can pay 1,000 to have your skills reset. Pick what you find benefits you, most of the skills don't really give a huge bonus until later in the game. Use your shield all the time as it give you an extra buffer when you're hit. Which should be never. Dodge, always dodge!

Money will seem like an issue at the start, but trust me, it's not 10 or so hours in.

A key mod I did is increase bag size to 9k, not 90 or something silly. I HATE having to manage bag space in open world games. So not sure if some see this as cheating or not but it bugged me.

Ummmmmmm, follow up on conversations! If you do a mission for a friend and you finish said mission, head back to visit that friend a few quests later (main or side), they more often than not have follow up quests and are happy to see you again! You won't get prompts for these (as far as I'm aware), so just be mindful to go see people.

Yeah just collect everything to start with and sell/break down all the crap gear from NPCs. Never sell crafting and alchemy materials though, they will always come in handy later on as you craft witcher gear and better potions and use little to no (cant remember it might even be zero) weight in your inventory. Also pay attention to whom you sell stuff, different vendors buy and sell at different rates depending on the item type.

A quick question regarding the best 'control' method.

I assume it is not possible to play by just using the mouse alone, and I am not very good at remembering keyboard key combinations!

Presumably a gamepad can be picked up quite cheaply, although I would prefer a wireless one.... would an Official Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows - Black (PC) be OK?

Thanks. :)

I use a wired 360 controller, so you should be absolutely fine....
