The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

I bought this on GoG ages ago and found that their "cloud sync" has not saved my save games. I'm jonesing for some Witcher but can't stomach playing through 20 hours of campaign again to get back to where I was. Wondering if the DLCs are playable with a fresh character or do you need to have completed the main story first?

Same happened to me at 70 hours only just stomached to play it again. Glad I did I'm 40 hours in and getting close to where I lost my save.

I've got HUNDREDS of saves, I can put them all up on a pastepin or something for you if you'd like?

Replaying this now, and trying to do different things then before. Like this time I saved the spirit when doing the Whispering Hillock quest, which of course have some other consequences for another quest. Also, doing it different opened another dialogue option with the elderman though, which was interesting to hear. I don't think I can do the quest involving the Tamerian any different though once I get to that part, I like the people involved there to much ! :p

About 75 hours into the game when I went to Novigrad (part from having visited Oxenfurt) it all been Valen. Still have some stuff left to do but it's to high level. At level 15 now, and whole of Novigrad city to explore, only that gonna take quiet a few hours ! :p And then we have the country side as well. Might see what I do, considering the main quest line and all. Might end up lvl 25 otherwise before going to Skellige ! :p

Anyone played it with all DLC running at the same time ?? First time I played it they weren't out yet so wasn't a risk to run into any Heart and Stone quests. So was wondering how others done ? Tried and run around them or just did them as and when you stumbled onto them ??

I waited until a fairly obvious point towards the end of the main story before I started any of the DLC quests, at which point I paused before the end of the main game to play through the Heart of Stone quests. Once those were done I finished the main game, and then after the ending I started of Blood + Wine... Story-wise it seemed to make the most sense that way

That sounds like good advice, think I take you upon that !

On another note. I was a bit careless and was told by two Witch Hunters to hand over my weapons to go and see someone, and being a bit of doofus at the moment I agreed to it. Turns out that a priest that I had questioned his faith, so to speak, had got upset and talked with these two so they thought they was gonna trick me and take me out. But, managed go through it. The Axii puppet skill was quiet handy there ! :p In anycase, I am digressing some. :o After the fight when Geralt collected his weapons from them, he automatically equipped some other weapons then the witcher ones as can be seen in the pictures.

And I was wondering if anyone know if it was just random.. or did the AI pick these because they are better ?? Yes the damage is less, but both has armor piercing on them, although the the silver sword is 52 less damage so can't really see that that would make up for it ??

Would rally like to hear your inputs ? :D

Hi mate, could i not just complete witcher 3 base game first, then do both dlc after ? as i guess a lot of original players would have completed withcer 3 anyway, way before expansions came out ? is there a reason why you did heart and stone before completing base game first, cheers

Yeah you could do, I think just from the story perspective it felt kind of strange concluding the main quest and then doing the 1st DLC (because it's set all within and around the same place that the main game happens in)... whereas the 2nd DLC is set in a different location and feels like it was meant to be played after. It won't hurt the experience much either way to be honest, just sharing what I decided to do!

Ok thx for reply.

I started using Axii but couldn't understand why it would only stun some people instead of enslaving them. I thought it might be to do with enemy levels or something but it seemed totally random. Perhaps a bug? So in the end I scrapped it and went with Aard and Yrden mostly. It's a shame because one of the runewords means Axii slaves last longer and I love watching the AI fight each other.

I just recently got the Axii puppet skill, first time worked just fine but then I couldn't get it to work either, just did a normal Axii on them. After a bit of searching I found out it is a bug, if you have Delusion and Puppet equipped at the same time, then Puppet sometimes wont work. Was three ways to resolve it: Some suggested capping framerate at 30fps, but doubt many want to play at that ! Second one was to unequip Delusion and then Puppet will work. The third one you have to change three lines in your input.settings ini file, but with this both will work together. Here is a quote from CDPR forum from a user that sorted it out.

I have managed to solve this for myself on the PC. It now works! I can have puppet and delusion at the same time.

To fix this:

Navigate to your folder: C:\Users\<User Name>\Documents\The Witcher 3

Open the file "input.settings"

Find all the entries for "IK_Q=(Action=CastSignHold,State=Duration,IdleTime=0.2)"

Change the entry to have an IdleTime of 0.01. So after your change it should look like this:

"IK_Q=(Action=CastSignHold,State=Duration,IdleTime=0.01)"

There are multiple entries of this setting, so you will have to change them all.

I didn't test it with other signs as this is a universal change to all alternate sign modes. But I am just happy to be able to use puppet and delusion at the same time now. It was driving me crazy to have to choose between them.

Source: PC holding down Q to cast Axii Puppet does not work in combat

Just be aware that if you changed the key for casting signs then it wont be IK_Q but whatever button you picked. I couldn't find it first until I realised it was because I have sign casting on Mouse5 so for me it was IK_Mouse5 and then the rest as above, since you better of using search in the ini file to easier find it. Can't guarantee it will be working for all though, but it seems to from what I read in the above thread.

After doing the remove of sign and ini edit above, I can confirm those two worked, for me atleast, although I picked the ini edit since I would most likely forget to equip Delusion before chatting with people. :o

@Paul_cz If it not to much to ask for, maybe put this in the OP ?? That way it be easier for others to find, since it do effect your play if you wanting to use signs.

Me again ! :p

Was running around in Novigrad and having fun looting everything when I suddenly ran into Roach here.

Now the funny thing is I never took Roach into the city, I have not even rode him close to Novigrad so I am guessing he felt lonely where I left him in Valen and decided to track me down !

Finally reached where I lost my previous 70 hour save and managed to get their in 46 hours on the hardest difficulty, must have sucked before. Very fun still and enjoying the story. Trying to complete all the side quests and ignore the question marks as I'm over levelled by quite a bit and the question marks end up being a bit duff anyway.

Just disable them in the menu and enjoy quests and natural exploration.
