The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Here is a curious thing, when I played last night I was able to launch the game normally from Steam, this morning though I can only launch it via the CDPR launcher and it seems to have lost all my graphics settings and options from last nights play. I wouldnt have thought it would have had two seperate settinugs , one for Steam and one for via the launcher but appears to.

Edit : ah no, I see, it has two different sets of settings, one for DX11 and one for DX12

Anyone got this working on steam deck? Just crashes on loading. Plus was there really a need to add a launcher...
Yep, getting crashing on loading on the deck, I can get in game, but when trying to load a save it gives me the little animated scene before crashing.

I can't even sign into the red launcher, even though i have cyberpunk installed already, it should recognise my login, but it just jumps around the launcher and i can enter any details.

not a great experience on the deck so far

Wow, none of this performance feedback sounds good!

Without some optimisations it sounds like we need a settings guide to get the best balance between new visuals and at least 60fps performance.
There's already a very simple settings guide:
If on a 12/13900K + RTX 4080/4090 then play the new version with all the bells and whistles turned on, but will still have some problems (unrelated to hardware power). The DX12 version is trash and has some undefeatable stutter at times, so if you can't max out the RT and use DLSS 3 then it has only disadvantages.
If your system isn't that then go back to the legacy version and add mods. It will look & run better.

You do not have to go back to legacy version. DX12 runs fine without RT and DX11 (in the updated version) also runs fine (and still allows ultra plus settings, and has the new features like paralax mapping in Novigrad).

Apparently you have to switch to DX11- not tried yet..

Was hoping you could tell me. Save me the hassle of checking myself
Yes but not adjustable atm. Looks fine as is tho imo.

You don't have to but it's better because of mod support. And no, DX 12 sans RT isn't fine because it also has a stutter problem but it's less severe than with RT enabled. Btw Ultra+ is just marketing nonsense for PC, the actual values are still far below the modded optimums which used to be properly unlocked in the game menu (with f.ex. "Tweaks" mod).

Are you genuinely expecting a new release to immediately work on the Steam Deck?
Not at all, that's half the fun in the deck, seeing what it's able run.

Considering Witcher 3 worked pretty well before the patch, it was interesting to see how it would run the new update.

At no point have I expected the deck to run everything, I knew what I was getting myself in for.

With this, Portal RTX and the Callisto Protocol my 3080 is starting to look weak. What convenient timing for Nvidia.

I feel slightly sorry for those who grossly overpaid for the 30 series last year. Thankfully I got my 3080 FE for MSRP and it wasn't worth a penny more.

So gorgeous. Now if only there were CPUs capable of holding 60 rock stable with RT.

How thoroughly depressing reading about the performance and problems. I've not tried it yet but I Have to say, why would we expect anything else in 2022? Have developers completely lost the ******* plot in the last few years? It seems that every single big game release these days is ****** on day one. And this isn't even 'new', it's essentially just been pimped.

Nah. Cyberpunk makes the 3080 look weak, but these 3 are just garbage efforts and mostly broken because of the devs/deadlines. Throwing more hardware at broken software won't fix it.

Doesn't look like they bothered implementing it.
They did. Just turn it on in Windows and play.
