The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

All in all I kind of expected this. Nvidia features always require the latest card of the time to be playable from physx to hairworks to gameworks. Now DLSS 3 seems to be needed for the CPU bottleneck in this.

So aside from the steam deck and rtx issues you can’t cross save between consoles and pc meaning I wasted money on the ps5 version - what a shambles.

edit - seems pc / console cross save does work just not very clear how to set up..

Even the controls are now borked. Using a controller (as I always have) I can't get above a slow walk.

EDIT - and AutoHDR doesn't work properly! There's no native in game HDR option which I was hoping for - Guess they couldn't be bothered implementing something as easy as that! I mean the game's only been out for 7 years. But at least AutoHDR worked before, now there's no AutoHDR message pop up and you can't adjust the slider in the Win+G menu - so it's not working. Pathetic.

Does nobody bother to test anything anymore? Seriously.

These days I find myself playing more and more old stuff that's been 'sorted out' and updated by the community. Play the Mario 64 Render 96 fork with raytracing or Zelda 64 PC Port. Absolutely sublime.
They changed run from the A button to pressing and holding the right stick. You can change this back to the old behaviour in the options. However, I noticed that sometimes Geralt can get stuck for a split second when changing direction which feels like lag, I don't know whether this intentional or not.

It will be sort of amusing (in an angry sort of way) if lazy developers just rely on DLSS 3 to overcome the CPU bottlenecks brought about by their rubbish coding skills. That's not how I thought DLSS 3 would be used  and if PC gaming at decent framerates is restricted to those who can spend over £1000 on the latest graphics cards then it will surely die very quickly.

The camera angle makes such a huge difference. You actually feel like you're truly part of the world now.
I've been switching back and forth between it because I just cant make my mind up, on the one hand, I like the closer immersive angle but on the other I am used to my character being central on the screen in ARPGs and MMOs and I find it a little jarring when the character is off to one side in this genre.

It's in movement that I really notice the difference. It s like I've been put at the centre of the game, and the motion blur added with the perceptively aligned world ratios makes it so much more believable.

You sprint by clicking the left stick, no need to hold it.

Gonna give this a try, it was £7 for the complete edition on GOG so figured why not. Donwloading game now. Forgot how neat GOG was, no drm, direct download of the game without a portal/store app. Nice.

GOG galaxy is my main launcher of choice, nice seeing everything I own in a single spot - yes it does open another launcher dependent on the game you play but it's a good way not to forget about stuff on lesser used platforms.

Also own a handful of games on GOG and it's a clean experience.

I'm not even using Gog Galaxy, just downloaded the 21 game files from the Gog site and ran the exe to install then deleted the installer files :D
I have Steam installed as my only storefront/launcher, all future Gog games will just be downloaded via the website.

RT comes with a massive performance hit - about 40 fps using DLSS Perf at 4K output on a 3080. Looks pretty good without RT so not worth it for me. Also tested a bit on the steam deck (win10) and seems to run pretty well though need to check some of the more demanding areas :p

everything running fine for me. Already had a load of mods installed and only one that doesn't seem to be working is the inventory item weight mod.

I'm not sure it looks any different even with ray tracing though

Had a bit of a play this morning and have to say I'm impressed. There are some frametime stutters shown on the graph when some things load but it's not reflected in the motion on the screen which is strange, anyways, I'm getting ~60fps everywhere at 3440x1440, Ultra+ settings with all raytracing enabled. Hairworks is off, didn't make much difference to fps but I thought Hairworks off actually looks better?? Not seen any framerate drops anywhere either so reckon I am in the minority crowd that have no performance issues on this, at least on GOG anyway.

I have Reflex set to Ultra+Boost and that's made the mouse movement instant which actually makes a nice difference in how movement and camera respond.

DLSS is set to Balanced with sharpness set to high, resulting in:

Game feels like it is gigantic, definitely one to keep installed and slowly work through the quest and side missions over a long period of time lol. The cat in the tavern hissed at me, I think it has issues.

If only Callisto Protocol ran like this with RT enabled...

Well I waited 18 months for this update. Downloaded the 50Gb update and it now refuses to start. Some weird error that mentions the PS5 and multiple XBox’s.

Verified the files, got the launcher pop up, clicked on the start button and then received the same error as above.

No idea what’s up with it and I’ll probably try to figure it out tonight but I’m more than a little disappointed after waiting all this bloody time.

Mine won't even load, just crashes on loading screen, twice now, what a stupid update, seems bugged as hell
