Meh I wish I did a degree that actually guarantees a job at the end of it.... Digital media I did and got 2 marks off a 1st but it feels like I would have as much chance getting a good job if I did not bother with it!

No Degree guarantees a job at the end. None.

Everyone has to work hard to get it, via experience, interviews and job knowledge. Don't give up on it, if you truly enjoyed what you studied and want a job in that sector, start going through that area. Even if you have to start low, your degree will get you noticed and move up quicker.

Remember, a degree is not an instant high paying, high flying job. This is totally missold by previous generation of "Uni For Everyone" idea.

A degree opens more doors for you to get into, there will always be obsticles between you and that door. It's experience, determination and hardwork that gets you into them, not some paper that says 1st, 2:1, 2:2 or whatever.

As above, my degree wasn't one that would get me an instant job. But I've had to work roles to get experience, the degree has made getting positions much easier.
Now I'm possibly joining a company that has positions just above the one I'm likely to be starting on that would require a degree.

Digital Media is such a broad term, doesn't it cover everything from web design to video editing etc? I find that in the job market the majority of jobs require some sort of a focus (to use my example a wed dev or a video editor).

I don't know you and you may have already done this but work towards what you enjoy the most (or what you're good at - you're choice), rather than rely on the degree to carry you. My degree left me with a number of different routes to go down but ultimately I had to choose and I've not seen many roles that require everything I did in my degree.

Yes you just summed it up perfectly.... Very generalised degree and no specific career at the end of it, it was a bit of everything with nothing specialised enough to actually get a job at the end of it. I think that also degrees are not as impressive as they used to be because of the amount of people that have them now and everyone getting student loans and doing degrees etc.

True, that's why if you're looking to specialise in an area or focused learning in the Science and Engineering field, a degree makes sense - along with other degree needed jobs like accounting, lawyers e.t.c.

The perks of a science degree is versitility, as it dabbles in maths, stats, analysis and depending on the fields, it can easily cross over to other areas.

e.g. I grad BSc Pharmaceutical Science - 2:1, didn't touch a single bit of Pharmaceuticals since I graduated. Fell into the world of Food Industry and now works for Haribo developing new products for them. Got there through experience and my degree cross enough over to Food Science despite all I cooked at Uni was mostly inorganic materials.

Your media degree might have been broad but if you don't have specific focus, there's always Masters that allows you to stretch your media degree abit further e.g. focus on Business with your media degree and then perhaps look at Marketing and commercial sales?

Does anybody know any good IT job sites to work in Gibraltar? (Bit of a long shot :p )

Mostly online betting/casino IT jobs...

Yep *plenty* of jobs in Gibraltar setting up DCs and clusters... apparently it's highly lucrative. Companies over here are setting up their hosting over there because it's illegal to do so in this country

Got offered from a so called ISP only to find out later that I will be essentially building a PaaS for gambling sites *do not want*

I've just finished my apprenticeship, (well actually, October 2013). I've been trained as a marine electrician and I was put on a two year course due to previous full time college courses I had completed. They didn't take me on as there was lack of work.

While I done my apprenticeship I completed a City&Guilds and NVQ both at level 3

This leaves me with little experience 'in the real world' and not enough confidence to go into a new job fully qualified.

I've tried for jobs and getting no luck. Does anyone think I have much chance if I ask for £100 a week with a buildings/ commercial electrician just to gain experience?

Get yourself on Linkedin and make yourself known to local recruiters in the job sector of interest, i.e. Electrician. Whilst that is happening, try calling around different builders / contractors / local factories that may want the odd help (if lucky, someone actually looking to hire but no budget to advertise giving you a chance).

There are may factories that subcontact their maintainence jobs, but on the other side of the coin, there are also those who hire a team to do everything on site. Nothing is stopping you to going for a 'new job fuly qualified' as long as they're happy to take you under their wing.

Good luck!
