I don't understand why so many "junior" tech/engineering jobs all say that a degree is essential. I would that thought that if I had a degree I wouldn't be applying for £15-20K junior positions or is that just how the job market is now-a-days?

I'm soon to be leaving my engineering job of 19 years with only a BTEC ONC so constantly seeing "degree essential" for jobs that are extremely simple must be hugely under-valuing for graduates.

It's the trend but it's not a must. If your experience can cover the need for a degree understanding, a lot of places use it as a barrier.

We are currently recruiting for the following 4 positions mainly within our Reading office at a large IT company and one based offsite in Epsom. Email me at brentsa at hotmail dot com for a full job description document (my trust account doesn't work due to the *™ in my username)

1: Technical Consultant specialising in Citrix to join our Technical Support Centre. This role is based in Reading with occasional travel to client sites.

2: 1st Line Support Analyst to join our busy team on site with Toyota based in their offices in Epsom.

3: New opportunity within the Internal Sales Team for an Internal Account Manager based full time in our Reading office.

4: Vacancy for a Service Desk Engineer to join our Service Desk Team in the Technical Support Centre, Reading. This role offers an opportunity to join the team in a technical position with plenty of
customer interaction and would suit someone wanting to further their career technically without losing the customer service element they enjoy.

There must be loads of these positions which miss out on applicants because they don't bother to quote a salary or just say '£Competitive'. There must be people who might move if the salary is tempting but whom gloss past it because it's not mentioned?

We have permanent roles as a UX Lead and Creative design, likely to have 5 contract roles in each discipline shortly as well, roles based in London/Norwich/York, trust me ASAP if your interested.

Roles are for a Major UK Insurer who has a majorly annoying git in the adverts :D
