Think you can hide on Farcebook? Not any more.

It's not a storm in a teacup at all. A lot of us don't want to be seen.

What possible reason could you have for wanting to hide the fact that you have a Facebook account? Why so paranoid?

In any case, all you need to do is tweak your privacy settings and the most anyone outside your friends list will see is your name and picture (if you've chosen to upload one). That's all. Storm in a teacup.

To say it's OK is akin to being forced to stand in a room with people you were trying to avoid but being told, "it's OK, you don't have to say anything to them."

No, it's nothing like that at all. You're not in the same room as them; you're outside the house, with only your face and a nametag on display. They can't contact you or check any of your personal details.

If you don't want people to find out you're on Facebook, there's a simple solution: get off Facebook.

I've said for a while I'm becoming bored of it. A few years ago it was good fun, all lighthearted etc. Now it's just rubbish. I haven't put any content on there for a while. I just don't see the point anymore.

It's either another pointless 'look-at me!!!' check-in, life-event, photo of young child too young to give consent, moan about x,y or z...etc etc etc

It seems that people forget this, if you don't like what Facebook are doing then don't use it, simple as that.

It's not as simple as that. A lot of people use it to compliment their social activities as a group. The local keep fit place and dance studio near me, for example. Also, a lot of people provide workplace details and where they frequent on a regular basis on their time lines etc. A gold mine for weirdos and stalkers.

I have my account locked down to friends only. But I know that some of the people I have added on their are very lax with their security, getting access into those accounts would be pretty easy. From there you could view all of my profile.
:(

I have my profile set to friends only or friends of friends, depending.

I don't give a toss about being visible. Oh no, so-and-so who is friends with my mate could be seeing what I liked yesterday, what a violation.

Get a grip, it's a social networking site. If you really want to be private, make a spoof account with sod-all pictures or anything on there and a fictional name. Job done.

I only have a FB account to keep in contact with a few mates who I met at Le Mans and we keep in contact. Its easier and cheaper than texting!

I do have some other people on there too of course, but I don't put much on there really but as others have said above, its nothing if you know how to use FB and sort your privacy settings :)

I used to have someone else's logon, who's friends with everyone, because she's hot.

There are no real privacy settings on FB if I can do something like this. You're deluding yourselves if you think otherwise.

Seems to be much ado about nothing really, if you want to put up a personal webpage on your own terms then buy a domain name like I did.

remember when it used to be stupid to put your real name on the internet, before facebook come along and myspace ruled and before that, barely anyone used there real name, so yeah if your that concerned about privacy use a nick name so no one can look you up unless you want them too.

So, reviewing the evidence, we find that it is in fact still entirely possible to hide on Facebook.

Never used FB. Never will.

This,Its funny the comments i get at work when i get asked am i on Facebook and i say NO.

They're like..why..your so wierd!?

Uhm...because i don't want to to?....because i dont want all my personal info shared amongst the world for everyone to look at?..dont need to tell everyone what im doing each day...If i want to keep in contact with someone whats wrong with the old fasioned way of phoning,Or even meeting up with them? :p

This is what gets me about critics of facebook, they have absolutely no idea how it can work.
I've been a member of Facebook shortly after it started and I've never done that.

You're probably in the minority then.

Most people who use Facebook a lot are posting everything they do. Esp how they feel, each and every day.

Who cares what the majority do, unless you befriend all billion of them.
It matters what your close friends and family post, not every man and his dog.
