Bah...I booked a concert happening in London in August months ago. Booked the train travel and a hotel. Cut to just the other week, talks of further train strikes possibly in early August, so I get spooked and book myself a backup coach ticket just in case.
Then earlier this week, I get a call from my solicitor - the house I'm in the middle of buying finally has all the required documents sorted, and we can discuss a completion date. The seller has suggested the same day I'm due to travel down to London - initially I'm against it, but my solicitor says I don't really need to be there that exact day, I just need to collect the keys which can be ready from lunchtime onwards, I can get the keys another day if I miss it etc etc., so I'm persuaded and figure I can quickly swing by the estate agents, grab the keys, then get the train to enjoy my little weekend before coming back and getting stuck in with the house.
Get an email today - "Sorry, the concert has been cancelled". But it's both a blessing and a curse. I guess now I can just focus on the house instead of rushing about, but now I'm out £400 after the hotel and all the travel and everything. I could still go down to London and enjoy myself, but I'll probably end up spending another hundred or so on food etc., plus the whole focusing on the house thing, I've decided against it.
