Thor: Love and Thunder

Bale performance good... that’s all I’ve got. Wasted opportunity w/having an Abstract central to the plot, did very little with the premise. Felt like they spent more time thinking about the lulz shooting this than having a great script. Doesn’t feel like I’ve really enjoyed anything post Infinity movie-wise tbh.

Watched it last night at the cinema. 6/10.

It wasn't a bad film, it just wasn't the film I wanted. After seeing Bale's Gorr in the trailers he looked great and I was looking forward to a semi-serious movie with a good plot based around Jason Aaron's Thor comics. I knew there'd be humour because it's Taika, which is fine, and adding in some humour works well (like Ragnarok or Guardians), but the majority of the film is humour and it spoiled it. Bale was putting in some high quality work as Gorr, and then you've got Thor and co running around like jackasses for 90% of the movie.

Goats were awesome though.

This movie has some of the worst CGI, effects, and green screen I have ever seen, half of it doesn't even look real, and even the "director" is laughing at it. Feel sorry for FX people that had to crunch to get this lamentable junk out though, while he makes millions.

Still after 20 odd years, Jackson's trilogy is the Gold Standard for how a fantasy/Sci-fi movie should look. But then, that was an artistic endeavour, whereas what Marvel produce is just "product"

Saw this on Saturday night.

Not as good as Ragnorak in my opinion. The humour was good, but there was just too much of it. It could have done with an extra 30 mins runtime just to space out the constant jokes!

I liked the story but Bale wasn't in it that much and for every powerful scene he had, a joke or oneliner occupied the rest of his screen time. Not enough Gaurdians in the film either and I don't get the fascination with the goats, as a non comic book reader it just seemed like another joke put in the movie, unnecessarily. The Zeus cameo was good until you hear the naff accent they made him use. And the potential villain for Thor 4 in the credits scene fell flat to me.

Spider man and doctor strange both beat this in phase 4 and Shang chi is only barely behind it, with black widow and eternals languishing at the bottom.

Natalie Portman was great, as was Chris Hemsworth, as always. Korg also as hilarious as every.

7 out of 10 maybe my opinion will improve on the inevitable second viewing on Disney+ in about 90 days time.

What makes you think they "made" Russell Crowne use that accent? I imagine it was the actors own choice.

I agree with you on all the other points though.

Also, if Dr Strange is anything to go buy, it'll be out on Disney+ sooner than 90 days.

I sort of meant did no one hear it prior to release? It sounded terrible. I thought it may have been a director's choice to add to the humour etc to make it fit in to the jokey tone of the film. I am certain an actor of his stature could pull off better, given the freedom.

It might be 60 days to Disney+ releases not the 90 I stated. Better for me as there were enough good bits that I want to watch it again anyway, but not enough to pay for another cinema ticket :D

And it still managed to cost $250 million, 3/4 of that must have went to high end hookers and cocaine.

Yeah it sort of felt good not great but I can't put my finger on exactly why like I could with Strange 2.
In places it was very funny, I thought the cast were all good and Bale was great. I'm glad we got 'closure' to Jane's story. I didn't like the bit with the kids fighting, that felt unnecessary. One thing it did share in common with Strange 2 is that there felt like too many aspects that were just checkboxes to say they'd done it. They bought back Lady Sif finally but barely used her, the Guardians were gone almost instantly etc.

I think overall I enjoyed it more than Strange 2 so it might get a 7.5/8 out of 10.

Maybe its just burnout from seeing the same character in so many similar movies? He's been in 4 thor movies and 4 avengers movies, no idea if hes appeared as Thor in other marvel movies as a cameo etc.

More on the accent.

We actually talked at length about the accent. We wondered if someone did a Greek accent of a Greek god, is it going to be a farce? Will it be too silly? And Russell was very much wanting it to be Greek. But I wasn't sure, so we ended up doing two versions of every take with Russell. One in a Greek accent and then another in a British accent. Because I felt people would think Zeus would sound British like Laurence Olivier in "Clash of the Titans."
But then I realized in post that it's actually more offensive to the Greeks to have Zeus sound like he's British. And test audiences loved the Greek accent. I'm really happy with it. But, yeah, he had to do every take once in the Greek accent and once with a British accent because I couldn't make up my mind. But Russell was right all along.

******* knew it! Could feel it in my bones this was gonna be a dumpster fire. Won't be seeing and, to be honest, didn't expect to.
Just knew it!

I just think back about how well recieved and how damn awesome past Marvel films were: Winter Solider, Inifinity War, so many.
