Thorney Motorsport

Lol, so he's gone from 'knowing bugger all about fixing cars' to owning and running a tuning company in just a few short years :/

Does that not go for most things though?

I knew bugger all about photography a couple of years back, but now can comfortably understand the workings of a DLSR and the intricacies of taking a good shot.

I've just purchased a rotary polisher for my car and found insight from reading many forums showing how to correctly use the machine what pads and cutting compounds to use.

Not defending the guy, but there is a steep learning curve to most things so there was obviously an interest followed by putting what he may have learnt into practice.

Big mistake/negligence appears to have occurred here and the situation from the one sided opinions seem to favour the customer and unfortunately Thorneys appear not to have dealt with the situation at all well.

If anything this maybe the necessary kick in the rear end for them to address any issues they have as a company take heed and hopefully if their business is not too tarnished can apologise and put things right.

All IMO.

I also lay slight stupidity on the owner of the CSL for handing over cash for a job he was not happy with?!?

All of our tuning packages are fully backed by our comprehensive warranty and you get to try them out before you pay... all have a money back guarrantee.

Most well-respected 'tuners' have years and years experience behind them with proven results, and come from a background in the industry. Of course, he may well have took an interest and magically went from knowing 'bugger-all about fixing cars' to become a tuning guru in a few short years, but given the choice between that and a well respected company that can draw on years of experience and a proven track record, I know where my money would go........

Exactly, and especially if i was spending £13k having it 'tuned' I would want the very best experienced engineer working on my car.

Tuning cars is like a martial art, something that cannot be mastered in only a few years, comming from no knowledge at all.

Dreamscience a reputable tuning company for the Focus ST started off quote.

dreamscience was formed in 1999 to provide research in the field of flat screen displays. Since then we have evolved to fill different needs in the market to include laboratory equipment solutions, vehicle dynamometer diagnostics and automotive tuning products.

What I'm not understanding is because said guy has posted questions concerning vehicle tuning/basic mechanics therefore appears not qualify him to have a business tuning vehicles?

I do not know anything about the company, but I would be highly surprised if he does not have fully skilled staff. Did John do everything on the car?

I took my car to have the front bumper resprayed at a prestige sprayer/repair centre. Their walls were covered with award this and that etc. Hell they even serviced Porsche Mayfair.

The job they did on my car was not on par with what they appeared capable of. They had to respray the bumper to get it to my satisfaction.

It shows that he lacks the experience of other well respected tuners. It shows that he can't draw on years of experience and knowledge, and people that speak to him can see vast holes in his knowledge base. Maybe his staff can draw on years of experience, I don't know.

Also, dreamscience are basically an electronics equipment research/development company, not the same thing as a full blown 'tuning' company like TMS et al.

With all due respect pretty everyone seems to be an amateur photographer these days, it's that easy to get good shots now with modern DSLRs rather than what was involved before the digital era. It's also a bit different to knowing the intricacies of setting up a race car, most tuners will have been involved with motorsport or cars at some stage in their early life and certainly wouldn't go from those posts to a professional outfit in a few years.

I was highlighting the point that everyone starts somewhere. :)

Obviously not on the same level as car tuning :)

And you now charge thousands of pounds to do peoples wedding photos?

And you are now running your own business polishing expensive supercars?
