Tomb Raider I - III remaster

walk to edge, move back once then run and jump :p
That doesn't work, you have to be a certain distance away from the edge before jump actually works, that's why I walked off the edge in a number of those attempts, jump simply did not activate. Happens on any ledge too. It's because everything is large-scaled I think. When you walk, a single tap forwards is a big step for Lara for example. You can't fine-tune Lara's positioning, with modern controls you can fine tune the camera and angle, but the movement pacing remains the same (large paces), with tank controls, fine tuning is basically zero :p

Watching that tells me hes never played the originals
:p
I did on PS1 way back, and then on MSDOS later

Up to level 6 in the first game now

I recommend playing with mouse and keyboard, the controls work better than a controller

KB tank controls. You can't jump sideways or backwards using modern controls. No controller yet but tank controls would be the same as KB on a controller anyway.

I'm up to level 6 in the first game which is about 40% through the game now with modern controls on mouse and keyboard. Don't need tank controls to make jumps

The only stuff I hate is the camera when shooting enemies and items like keys are hard to spot

I much prefer these controls and map traversal to the later games super easy run and jump while following the yellow tape.
Ok just finished the tutorial in Lara's house, I now know what's what, amazing how much is forgotten since the 90s :p

When Lara says at the end "I better take of these wet clothes", the game returns to the main menu

Using tank controls and controller to mirror my original playing experience on the PS1. At level 4 but I haven't even tried the modern controls, I don't want to be tempted to dumb down and breeze through the game; the positioning of Lara for the jumps with the original controls is a major part of the gameplay in my opinion.

Skill issue :p
You could hold the walk button to move slower and won't go over the edge. So slow walk right to the edge then one back peddle would take you back correct distance for the run into jump.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who never played these and are giving them a go for the first time. I suspect that won't be many.
