Tomb Raider Thread

I do miss the old isolation feeling when playing the earlier TR games. It's still a damn good action game though.
I miss the old style of pc gaming for the odd laugh and to be able to think for myself not let the game think for me and to remind me every time with an onscreen prompt to do this or that, todays games appear to cater to the cinematic cut-scene quick time events button/key mashing for lazy gamers who can't remember what action corresponds to what key. Nice improvement on the graphics and lighting and overall game engine visual tweaks etc, but i miss the free roam without the need to be lead down path a and path b because that's how the lazy devs have designed the lazy game. Time to retire this young persons video game era for me i suppose. Solitaire here i come haha :D

Completed it end of last week. Fantastic game with smooth combat and exploration (When it lets you)

I really feel the developers missed a trick or two. Some of the best parts of the game are when you go off exploring, yet there are not enough Tombs to explore and the puzzles are so simple. If only they had expanded on this.

Stealth combat with the bow is 10/10, however they don't allow you to play the game using stealth completely. Certain areas you are 100% forced into open combat. How disappointing. Imagine if they made it possible to complete the game using Stealth + bow/Silenced pistol?

Also a little OTT on the collectables. What a massive shame that the DLC is for Multiplayer content which I bet 1 out 10 people has even bothered to play. They really have missed the point completely.

Same :( I'm still getting that horrific tesselation issue as well. I'm not particularly bothered anymore though. At 66% completion and it's starting to become a bit of a chore to play now. I quite like the mechanics, I just miss the desolate, lonely feeling thats missing from the originals. I don't think the story is particularly good either.

I found the same problem with weird black specks on the textures on my GTX670 with tesselation switched on. Saying that, as a compromise i switched tessellation and post processing off and then didnt have any problems at all with the TressFX causing bad frame rates, 60fps average on ultimate/ultra. Looks awesome now :D

(i7 3770k oc 4.2ghz / msi gtx670 2gb / 16gb ram 1600mhz)

**Edit**
I also had issues for a few hours with CTDs/BSOD crashes playing this, turned out MSI Afterburner had decided to randomly switch to my OC'ed settings instead of default. Its usually a stable OC but because Tomb Raider realised there were extra resources available, it used ALL of them. Set back to stock overclock for my gfx card and all was good again. Mostly my stupidity, but I noticed others having trouble with CTD and that was almost a game breaker for me until I realised what was happening :)

Really enjoyed this game, Would have liked more puzzles & abit less shooting at mobs but apart from that a really good game.

Tested my GPU playing this though got around 34fps on medium :(

Glad i didn't pay full price for it as it wasn't a massively long game & if anyone hasn't played it start on Hard.

Enjoying this quite a bit atm. Playing on high settings on my eyefinity setup. Runs quite nicely.
Haven't tried any higher settings as I don't want it to become a slideshow. FPS sits around mid 30s most of the time which is perfectly playable.

While playing through I've found myself wondering, why do these things (bridges etc) that have clearly stood for hundreds of years continuously collapse as soon as little Lara approaches them. Just not fair! :P

I completed this earlier this week, I really enjoyed it and think it's Tomb Raider and Lara back to their best. Presumably the next step is a remake of the original Tomb Raider, which would be awesome. My only complaints about this game would be the amount of QTE moments, they really don't need to be there, and the lack of any really challenging puzzles. All the optional and hidden tombs were really simple, but hopefully that's something they address in the next one, particularly as the original game was full of such puzzles.

Overall, I would give this a 9/10.

I haven't read through the thread, but is anyone experiencing issues with low FPS? I have my 7970 overclocked to 1000/1500 but I am only getting around 30 - 40 fps maxed which is pathetic, especially when I am trying to record. Is this because the game is really demanding or is it yet to be patched?

I have a 7970 and preset ultimate settings and runs 60fps (capped it) most of the time with dips occasionally to 30fps but im guessing thats TressFX.
I have 13.3 beta 3 installed.

Ah, I don't have the newest drivers. That should be my first port of call. Thanks for that! :)

Im enjoying this game but it does seem to drag on abit, maybe im just too used to the 3 hour COD campaigns.

But i played this for 4 hours straight last night, went through a huge sequence which felt like the end, sooo action packed, saved my game - went to look at my savegame info, and im only 56% complete, blaaady hell.

Having tearing problems with my 560Ti. Set Nvidia control panel options to default and enabled triple buffer v-sync with high graphics quality. But still getting bad tearing, particularly outside and fast motion. Downloading latest drivers now, but don't think that will help.

EDIT: I have installed latest drivers and switched on adaptive v-sync. Initial results are promising. No tearing at 50fps.

Just completed this tonight after another 4 hour stint. 73% completion. Some really annoying problems, but brilliant story, good length, and it leaves it open for a continuation of the series too!
