Goes without saying!

Tbh, it is hard to tell with players on loan in the Championship. They should stand out above the rest if they are good, but at the same time don't get much a chance to fit in, and the teams are sometimes not great....I remember Leeds fans saying how crap Barkley was for them a few seasons back, Townsend as well. He is hardly the best player, but easily holds his own on the Premiership....Most fans of the clubs he was on loan at would have you believe he wasn't good enough for them!

All I can say about Lingard is that he scored some important goals, and looked pretty professional. At the end though, a lot of fans wanted him dropped(he will no doubt be star player next year now!)

Interesting you mention Barkley. He was on loan at Sheffield Wednesday prior to his move to Leeds. Barkley at Wednesday was nothing short of fantastic (as I said at the time and preached about him to anyone who would listen) and stood head and shoulders above the other Wednesday players (I take the point that's relative and not particularly difficult :p), similarly Connor Wickham was a revaluation for Wednesday, single handedly bullied opposing defenders (regardless of experience and size) and was generally fantastic for us. Wickham and Barkley had 'failed' loan periods at Leeds. I would suggest that it was more to do with Leeds than the players.

Mino Raiola has a reputation for being a difficult and subversive agent. I appreciate most have that reputation in this country but he's certainly developed a name for it.

Regarding Pogba from what we see I think it was a mistake to let him go, but then SAF would have worked with him constantly and obviously felt there was something not quite right there. Certainly wasn't the first player he let go for attitude issues and maybe he thought he was/would be a disruptive influence in the squad. It's impossible to know exactly why he didn't give him a chance it's fair to say there were certainly issues.

Boo hoo about his agent. I do not particularly hold agents in high esteem but I understand they do a job on behalf of the players, which is to largely do the best by the player.

Pogba has established himself as one of the best young midfielders in Europe at the minute, and is playing for a very good Juventus side. He won the Golden Boy in 2013 did he not? (Best under 21 player in Europe)

Why was he 'not quite right'? Why was his attitude an issue?

I haven't seen any problems with Pogba at Juventus, in fact quite the opposite.

It seems that Pogba wanted to play football, there is a quote about Fergie knowing that if Pogba is not given a first team chance he will leave. Then, Pogba was not given a consistent run in the side, many starts and decided to leave.

The 'disrespect' that Ferguson mentioned could come from Pogba deciding that he will move to a club that can offer him first team football on a more regular basis, I don't see that as reason to hate a player.

Absurd from the Manchester United fans on here.

...when you say United fans.

I take the point Shami :o , but still.

Pogba is really, really bloody good and I just do not understand the hate.

If Manchester United could bring him back to the club it would be a real victory for the struggle to improve the midfield.

for £60m though - thats just obscene for anyone of his experience.

Its hard (if not impossible) to compare but surely its in the same vein as Bale to RM last summer - and so far thats worked out very well, but look through majority of the posts from last summer and he was massively "over-priced".

He may well be playing for a "very good" Juve side, but where would they be in the EPL, top 6?top 10? Is this because of a decent team or because italian football is still very suspect in general

Still can't see it happening before the WC. I don't know if players are allowed to conduct deals while out at camp but I expect Southampton are hoping he has a storming world cup and drives his value up a bit more.

Townsend was awful, truly awful. Barkley was poor, though not on the same level, but Wickham was great. I don't know by what rationale they had failed loan spells at Leeds.

^ It's harder against Leeds, We're a big club in the Championship. It's like a cup final every game for us. You can see it in the live games, we always get kicked and pressed far more than other sides.

Regardless of how I feel about transfer fee's.

Bale commanded a huge transfer fee and while was getting plaudits in England, Pogba was picking up the Golden Boy award in Europe :).

I think any Manchester United fan who would not take Pogba in a heart beat is mad, on the very simple basis he would hugely improve the midfield.

He never looked ready to be in the first team when he was at United from what I saw when he did play but he was never really given much of a chance.

I imagine that he peed off Fergie in some way and was let go because of that.

I haven't seen him play since then but a fee of 60m is quite ridiculous for him regardless of whether he would improve our midfield. Hopefully we will sign some good players this summer and over the next few years, Van Gaal can rebuild our squad. I don't expect to have it rebuilt in one summer but we will sign some quality players.

I think if I was a young central midfielder trying to break through and they brought someone out of retirement for cover id leave aswell. I doubt Pogba would go back to United.

Oh yeah, thats a bit of a slap in the face and I wasn't at all surprised he left us soon after. To be fair though, Scholes was still an amazing player when he came out of retirement and he turned our season around so it wasn't the wrong move.

I thought the biggest reason for him leaving was our insistence on playing anyone else we could find in midfield apart from Pogba when we were short. We played a few defenders in there instead of him I seem to remember.

Paul Scholes coming back must have annoyed him, but when we played anyone like Rafael in the middle instead, i'd have said goodbye. In modern football, you need to be playing games at a young age, he was not, and rightfully chose his option to leave, he didn't force a move out, or ask for more money, he just wanted game time.

I'd have him back in a heartbeat and regret we let him go at the time, not because i knew he was going to be a world star, but that it was obvious we should have at least been trying him and others out as the midfield has been **** for years.

Just look at Nick Powell, such a promising player, certainly better than Cleverley, yet he's just become driftwood.

As good as Fergie was for the majority of his career, his last 4 years were awful to watch in terms of tactics, squad decisions and transfers.

I think I posted at the time something along the lines of "thats Pogba gone then" when he picked Rafeal and Park in the middle against Blackburn.
