So one week to go and still no lb in sight (I'm not counting monreo as he should have signed about 10 times by now) really do not want a full season relying on Enrique, flannagan can't cover for all the games we have plus I'd rather play him at rb over Johnson based on last 6 months

The reason he won't sign is he keeps seeing people spell his name wrongly.

Another Arsenal Captain bailing out, they should give the arm band to Walcott next year in the hope he follows all the rest somewhere else.

How is it bailing out? He was dropped, classed as unneeded. A bit different to the likes of RvP and Henry leaving.

He's not playing for us so we are saving on wages and a nice £15m. Pointless him sitting on bench. Could do with shipping out a few more like that.

Chambers looks like we will be playing him in the centre from the friendlies.

We have two players to cover RB plus chambers if needed. LB is a bit thin though with Gibbs being a little injury prone. Verm was our main backup.

I like Walcott, not the most consistent and injury prone but he helps with his speed. He just needs to learn how to take people on without running into a wall. He gets goals and creates goals. Good enough for me.

Tim Vickery on a BBC world podcast claims Liverpool have lined up a big name South American replacement for Suarez that isn't Falcao. Cavani or Higuain then? Are Jackson Martinez and Levazzi 'big names'? Thinking on it, how about Lucas Moura or maybe even Pastore? Seems to fit the FSG model of highly rated youngster thats lost his way a little

I fully expect its horse ****, but if the man u lot here can **** themselves into a lather over crap tweets and tenuous links that translate into something different why not anyone else? **** it I'm going to start posting line ups based on who we might sign soon.

At the end of the day (false or true) transfer targets/rumours are about entertainment. People shouldnt take these so seriously, as the stories are supposed to be fun.
Until the player signs, fans should consider it a fabrication.

As a Man Utd fan, I trust the judgement of our manager in charge, who is vastly more knowledgeable about football than any of the posters in this thread and that he will make the right decisions.

Our pre-season is going well. We are unbeaten and I fully expect us to start the season well. Our main problem last season was Moyes - he is gone. Our 2nd problem was confidence - this seems to be gradually returning (good results will do this).

With regards to Vidal. If his knee injury is cleared up, we probably will buy him. But if not, we will buy an alternative or promote from within (LvG is known for promoting youth players). This isnt a big deal. We will win games with or without him.

If people really are getting stressed over all this transfer speculation, then get yourself a copy of football manager 2014 and play that. That'll get you through the next month before you know it and on Sept 1st, you will know exactly who we have bought. ;)

Do it! That's what this thread is for :)

This one is for Robbo, quote from the Juventus forum i am a member of.

"Met Vidal tonight. Said "resta con noi" and he laughed and smiled (lol)

He's gone for sure now."

Resta coin noi means stay with us in italian.

I agree in principle of course, but look at all the players/experience we've lost (and there are more leaving), we can't just gamble on a few youngsters, it's risky to say the least! We had a great pre-season but that isn't guaranteed to translate well into the league season, far from it, but it's a very positive start.

Did you see what Pogba said too, in here: http://www.theage.com.au/sport/socc...r-epls-manchester-united-20140809-102c3m.html

It IS big deal because Vidal, if/ when he arrives, is Utds best chance of getting back into the CL positions this season, and there are only a few comparable players with his experience, versatility and alround game and even fewer who are likely to be available

Its all very well talking about younger players but thats a massive gamble on something thats so essential to the club going forward ( to attract the mega-stars going forward).

Its also worth pointing out that this season is also a unique opportunity in being able to rest up during the European games, if Utd dont get Cl for 15/16 in all liklihood they will be in Europa ( no disrespect meant to Spurs, Everton or anyone else) making it a lot harder to start with and potentially without LvG as well.

Top 4 without signing Vidal is possible, but makes the season a huge amount harder than is necessary. Utd have some very exciting kids coming through but lack the experience required to be first choice in cm positions even against midtable teams let alone vs Arsenal / LiverpooL / Everton / Spurs ( given that Chelsea and City are likely to be first and second)

Ah, I thought that was the real article.

Agree with Frank above too, and who can we "promote from within" who is even 10% as good as Vidal? There's nobody.
