Hindsight is always perfect though

He was just a reasonable but very arrogant prospect when he left

I can't agree with that, Pogba was a class player when he left you. I remembered seeing him against Sheff Utd in a cup match, and he was far and away the best player on the pitch, and that was a season or 2 earlier.

It's another "he was young and wanted to play... so must be arrogant" post from anyone. Firstly wanting to play is normal not arrogant and leaving if you can't get a game is sensible, not arrogant. Secondly, what is wrong with arrogant? You think when Messi looks up, sees nothing on and decides to go around 4 players, there is no arrogance there, or Ronaldo shooting from 45 yards at a freekick, or literally anything at all that Zlatan does. Arrogance is common in successful players. But people use it as an excuse... oh he was arrogant so he wasn't worth keeping around, as if it somehow justifies it, it's such an unholy character trait that you would never want anyone who was arrogant in the team.... nonsense.

He also looked very promising before he left not remotely average, and most importantly Fergie said in the previous season he is promoting him to the first team squad and knows he has to play him or they'll lose him and they can't let that happen. He then proceeded to not play him and watch him leave, it really is an odd one.

The only thing that makes the slightest bit of sense is someone thought, if he plays for 12-18 months and becomes first team, he'll want 100l+ a week on a new contract. If we don't play him and tell him he's not quite ready and offer him 50k for 4 years... they'd probably get 18-24 months out of him a bit cheaper before giving him a bumper contract.

If it was purely personality, let him be a ****, give him a contract, play him for a year and then sell him on for 20-30mil. Fact is if they played him and offered similar wages to what Juve were offering, Utd could afford it, their team would be better, they'd have one of the most promising players in europe in his position and it's the position the club is weakest in. Whole thing is utterly bizarre.

to be fair, I think most people, seeing Park and Rafael starting games in central midfield ahead of you when the squad is barebones, would consider leaving. looking at Pogba's agent, though, he was always gonna be a problem. **** him. he seems to be doing just fine on his own.

lol, well that is the thing, if it was Scholes/Keane combination and some upstart was like "give me games", that would be one thing, but Park/Carrick(he's crap people)/Anderson(crap)/Cleverley/Fletcher and you can't get games, I'd be be irate. Not least because Fletcher was off with sickness for most of that time, Anderson is/was always injured, Cleverley looked promising at the start of that season but then missed months and he still couldn't get a game.

Like I said, at worst you hate the kid, give him cash play him and sell him asap. You just need to look at Suarez, or Barton to see even the biggest ****'s in football have "value", and letting him walk is madness considering how good he looked. He's still young and might not turn out great, but if they wanted to get rid, potential is almost as good as final product when it comes to transfer value. Gift him a big contract, give him even 10 more starts to get him to sign then play him less... and you probably make 15-20mil.

i agree with most of that. not about Carrick, though. has been a good player for us and we'd have been worse without him. he catches the flak because apart from Hargreaves and Scholes, we've had absolutely **** midfield options. Carrick will be phased out but he's more than played his part!

i did hear that we tried to low-ball the lad, (Pogba, that is) as we do with a lot of our youngsters, which doesn't surprise me at all. if you've got a blue-chip prospect with a sketchy agent, and you're not budging on a contract, don't be surprised if you lose them. it's naive of David Gill and Ed Woodward now to think the allure of Manchester United is enough. it's not, especially with the foreign boys. if we're angry, imagine how ****ed-off Le Havre must be! still gutted he left, though. i actually think he seems alright as a person, just a high opinion of himself coupled with a ****-house agent. young players, though, eh... even Scholes refused to be play in a reserve team game once and got fined for it!

Eyyyye fergie by and large did not make that many mistakes but when it came to French player he did..

Turned down ZZ, signed Blanc/ bartiez and letting PP leave for nout

Hah, you beat me to my response about Barthez. Super-ninja edit there! ;)

I thought Barthez was a bit of a silly call but I did think that Blanc was quality for us, just we bought him too late in his career for us to get the full benefit of his talents.

Verm to Barca is done and dusted..

Newcastle are being linked with Andre Ayew again, as we have been for every transfer window in living memory. He'd be a good signing, but other than splashing out on a top striker I reckon we're done for the summer.
