"Likely being a royal pain in the rear" based on......... presuming he's a **** as a reason why he was allowed to leave? Even though he was offered a contract and Utd very clearly did not want him to leave?
A playier wanting to play makes him a royal pain in the arse. The main point as usual is even if he wasn't fantastic he would still have been worth a large amount of money which Utd essentially threw away. Put up with a (randomly made up) problem player for a year then sell him for 10-30mil depending on how well he does, or just let him walk out because you refuse to give him a chance. In the future he could be as good as Vidal or closer to Barry, he'd still have been worth loads and the reason people are saying 40-50mil now as a price is NOT because he's that brilliant yet, but for potential. Had Utd kept him previously given him say 40 games in the past two seasons they may have been looking at selling him for 20-30mil for his potential rather than actual ability.
As for adapting and Veron... firstly Pogba looked a cut above in the few games he played against English competition and he spent several years here training with an English team. That is simply not comparable to an older player arriving and being brilliant or not straight away in a new league. Players new to a club and league have a lot to adapt to, bringing a family over, learning a language, finding people to hang out with, ways to relax. Getting used to the training, the manager, team mates, everything. Veron had a crapload of things to adapt to and not all players do well in new places. Pogba was already at Utd, had been for some time, knew his team mates, knew the manager, was used to the training and was improving at a pace beyond other young players. There was little to no reason to suggest he'd be poor in the EPL.
Pogba had to "adapt" to the Italian league, new manager, new team mates, new house, new language, etc, and did so seamlessly.
