If Chelsea gave him a chance he could've learnt from him last season while you strolled your way to the league title :)

Sad but true. Another victim of the Fernando Torres debacle :(

The biggest issue with Torres isn't even the transfer fee, or his astronomical wages, it's that the necessity to play him has pushed out other players and weakened the squad. If we'd simply consigned him to the bench after his first season then things would have been much better for us.

Rojo played CB for Argentina, plays LB too. He seemed fairly good but he looks like a winger playing as a defender, if that makes sense... lots of flair you don't want near your own penalty box (he did a last ditch rabona clearance in a knockout match I think). I think he'd make good cover for Shaw, but I'm not sure about him as a centre back.

The Portuguese press do tend to be awful though, so I'm not reading too much into it.

Also looks like Adnan Januzaj has been given the number 11 shirt. Not sure where he'll play if we aren't using wingers...

Utd do have ties with SL though, even though there were reports that the SL heirarchy annoyed Man Utd earlier this summer by backtracking on a pre-agreement for Carvalho (Ive only seen this referred to once during the world cup so have no idea the validity)

Utd also do need another full back if not two.

We need more than that. Certainly appears as if nothing is happening on the transfer front, at all...

Insanity.

At least GNev is in agreement about signings: http://www1.skysports.com/football/...r-league-title-push-not-realistic-this-season

Edit:

Sky Sports News have got the Marcos Rojo thing 'confirmed by Sky sources' running along the news ticker at the bottom. Seems it's on...

I agree - all I was referring to above was full back options

He'd be a fine full back option. Playing him at CB would be risky, he can certainly do it but there are big question marks over his positioning/decision making.

Sky think Sporting are asking for £30m for him though... we should run a mile at that price.

That would also imply there's no release clause, but we'll see I guess. If LvG wants him then he must have a good reason.

Jamie Jackson at The Guardian backing this up now (I'm not his biggest fan but he's better than most):

Louis van Gaal is hopeful of landing Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon for £16m, with the Manchester United manager also renewing his interest in Angel Di María after the Real Madrid forward’s proposed transfer to Paris Saint-Germain fell through.

With Van Gaal is also considering a move for Ajax’s Daley Blind, the Dutchman is determined to strengthen his squad considerably in the final days of the transfer window ahead of its close in just over two weeks time.

Rojo is a left-sided defender who can operate at centre-back, possesses considerable pace, and is only 24, so fits the ideal of a Van Gaal player. The manager wants to deploy him at wingback in his proposed 3-5-2 system or in the centre of defence. Given his considerable international experience – Rojo played all 120 minutes of the 2014 World Cup final and was named in the team of the tournament – Van Gaal would have no qualms regarding his ability to adapt to the Premier League. The former Estudiantes player also has experience of Russian football, having spent the 2011-12 season at Spartak Moscow.

While Rojo’s contract may contain third-party elements that can be common for players in Portuguese football, there is confidence at United that this will not be a particular problem. Reports in Portugal also suggested that Rojo had refused to train on Tuesday to force his transfer through.

Di Maria, yes please. Let the Argentinian revolution begin. :p

There were rumours today that PSG were still working on a deal for Di Maria even after the President stating he was too expensive a few days ago

It could have just been a website being updated with out of date info.....

What do they mean by too expensive. That suggests he isn't worth what Madrid want for him which is rubbish. This is a team that just spent 50m euros on Luiz. FFP isn't exactly high on their list of worries either.

Just want you want a player refusing to train until he get's his way in your side.

Rojo has informed the Portuguese side he will no longer train with them until the situation is resolved to his satisfaction.

Its what the President of PSG said over the weekend

Not sure if it was the 60/70m euros that RM seem to be wanting or something else but just going off what the BBC (and other sites) reported on Fri /Sat.

Either way its not a big deal once LvG gets hold of him lol

They mean di maria is nowhere near the class of ronaldo so he's worth nowhere near 50 million. It's a retarded figure. You'd have to be blind and drunk to pay it.

I thought PSG weren't pursuing Di Maria due to FFP restrictions meaning they can't spend that much? Maybe I'm imagining things but I'm sure that's what I read.

That's the general understanding, yes. They'd have to sell Cavani to fund a Di Maria move due to FFP. And nobody wants to pay £40m~ for Cavani.
