Unfair to say it was a "meh" (I hate that "word") season But he was playing second fiddle to Ibrahimovic and pushed out wide (on the left) most of last year. So tbf 16 goals is a pretty good return - those 16 only came from 30 games as well.

The "meh" was semi sarcastic and only in comparison to his other better seasons.

IE Cavani had a "bad" season and got 34, you can consider that prolific, but Sanchez scoring 27 in the only season he's ever scored more than 20 in all competitions, but scored 12 or less in Italy couldn't be considered prolific.

Mr Van Gaal was very keen to help out with my ice bucket challenge #MUFC

Manchester United are continuing talks with Sporting Lisbon over a deal to sign Marcos Rojo, according to Sky sources.

United are unwilling to increase their bid of £16million for the Argentina defender, with reports in Portugal suggesting Sporting may accept that amount if a United player goes in the opposite direction on loan.

Sources suggest Rojo is unlikely to play for Sporting again. He was suspended by the club after refusing to train last week, and missed the club's league match on Saturday.

Rojo is now expected to make the move to Old Trafford but if the deal does fall through, United will turn their attention to Stuttgart's Antonio Rudiger.

Sporting have been holding out for more for Rojo as they only own 25 per cent of the player.

Rojo is giving an interview to Sporting's TV channel in a few minutes, so I assume the situation/stand-off is resolved to some degree...

All Manchester paper journalists say we've never been interested in Benatia, so either Sky know something they don't or they've made it up. Or perhaps we're just lying to everyone so the deals don't become more complicated, hopefully.

Arsenal dumped Gilberto to give Song more games, Barcelona bought Song for something like £15million.... big teams are wrong all the time.

Same thing happened with Hleb and pushing Pires out of the club for the laughably awful plonker. Barca went ahead and bought him and used him basically not at all because he's terrible, Birmingham got him on loan and realised he was ****.

I also haven't said he's bad, there is no need for every player to be good at everything. However one of the reasons Arsenal never win the big games is we have little to no balance. He's very good at what he's good at. But in three games we haven't played a team designed to get the best out of him. He could score 20+ goals a season if we play him as a striker and look to play balls in behind and look to slide through balls behind the CB's for him and Ramsey to get on to. In three games we haven't seen a hint of playing that way.

I really don't think there is room in the team for him, Walcott and Ramsey. I'd actually happily see Walcott sold(injury prone and lack of quality), Sanchez is FAR stronger than Walcott(when he's not diving) and would suit playing the striker role a hell of a lot more than Walcott just for that reason. Walcott is not only a big girl, he's physically weak and he gets injured. If we played him upfront he'd be bullied and injured after a few games. Sanchez up top and bring in a better winger than Walcott and that would be great.

I was sad to see Pires go. But at the time Arsenal had a policy of only offering 1 year contracts to players over 30, so for that reason Pires left.

Yeah, and Villarreal offered him a 3 year contract. Bit of no brainer for him really..

PIres and Reyes for that matter spoke about deciding to leave over the champs league final, well that being the final straw. Both were dropped through the season in favour of Hleb despite him being basically inept at football. Reyes said not being picked for the final made him leave and Pires stated he was insanely angry at Wenger at being subbed off after the red card instead of Hleb, which is absolutely fine by me.

Reyes may not have stayed anyway, he might have, Pires would have stayed but saw that as the final insult and chose to leave afterwards.
Wenger purposefully pee'd off probably the second or third best player at the club for Hleb. Nuts, selling Vieira with Cesc to replace him is fine(though keeping him would have been fine as well) but pushing Pires out for Hleb is utterly insane. The equivalent would be pushing Ronaldo out and dropping him to give Valencia games.

Pires spoke about it when he came back to train with us before joining Villa, he said he was angry but over it now.

Ian Ladyman (who, despite working for the Mail does have some good Man Utd sources):

While I think Di Maria is easily one of the best attackers in the world, I wouldn't want him at the expense of Vidal/Benatia, etc.

He will add pace and a much greater threat than we have now to our attack though, as well as being a good signal of intent. If we decide to play with wingers, Di Maria and Januzaj out wide would be great options.

I don't know, I don't have the paper. :p

We are definitely briefing that we're interested in him though, whether we'll get him...

We needed 3-4 players last season and we are still in the same situation at the moment. We have lost 4 defenders and bought 1. We have lost Carrick for 3 months and bought 1 midfielder. Each season lately we are taking one step forward and one step backwards.
