Rojo plus nani and £16m is a pants deal. He isn't that special and Nani has to be worth 10m or so.

Nani really isnt worth that much any more (half that would be a good deal) - but even so the rumour I saw yesterday was nani on loan + £16m

Would be another sideways step. The squad is thin as ****. We need to ADD players, not trade them.

Getting rid of two terrible players doesnt make the squad any worse, it actually clears up squad places (not that its likely that Utd will fill all of them this window but still)

Nani has had enough chances under Fergie and Moyes to impress but he has never really grapsed the challenge. I don't think too many tears will be shed if he does leave this summer.

Out of interest who would you keep out of Young and Nani ??

I thought this guy wasn't worth much more than £10m? £16m and Nani so probably in the region of £25-30m? I wish Utd had the business sense of Chelsea....but it's OK "Utd have the power to break transfer records, money isn't an issue".

I think a lot of United Supporters are now thinking we should have held on to Vidic, I know he's past his best but it would have given the defence some much needed experience.

I won't shed a tear over Nani, Young or Valencia - none of which have really been stand out performers apart from the odd flash of brillance.

Rojo would be a good additional but agree we need another CB atleast, another CM would be ideal

16m for that Rojo is a good deal, he's scrappy and get's stuck in, you've been missing someone like Keane. Far better deal than 35m for Benatia.

Admittedly I've not seen a great deal of either (and I've only seen Rojo at LB), but Benatia is widely regarded as being in the top 5 defenders in Europe, his stats back that up, and he looks a formidable defender. He's also got a lot more experience than Rojo, which is what we're lacking in defence too.

Physically Rojo seems ideal, fast, strong, and can tackle - but, he's prone to mistakes, maybe LvG can improve that side of his game, that will be key. I think it's a very interesting signing, either way.

Agree

Not seen too much on Benatia so can't comment too much but £35m for a central defender who you would potentially put in the same bracket as a Vermaellen or Rojo doesn't make too much sense but hey making sense and Edward Woodward are strange bedfellowes

At the very least, you have a player who can play well enough as wither LB or CB. From a depth point of view that kind of flexibility is very useful. Chelsea have used Ivanovic in this way for a while (RB instead of LB but still).

Benatia was easily the best CB in Serie A last year. He's a top-class defender. Not quite up to the level of Hummels, Tiago Silva or perhaps Varane, but aside from that there's not really much above him. I'd take him over Mangala, who City just paid £43m for.

If Benatia was any good, he'd of left Italy a long time ago when he was at Udinese i think. I havent really seen Roma play but 16m for a 24yo Rojo who had a good world cup seems a good deal. It's not like you need world class throughout the whole team, you just need some better competition in certain positions. Defence especially. I exfect Fell to take over Fletcher's role in coming months as well. LVG needs to get on board with this league, it's physical and you need physical players in the middle, Fletcher isn't that...

And maybe he doesn't want to go to united full stop. If it's a choice between united and bayern then it's a no brainer.

Feels kind of like when City first had money to spend, someone needs to make the move and then others might follow.
