Man U fans getting all worked up over a big name, my my. Mata signing all over again.

spend all window chasing Vidal and sign someone in an entirely different position. Good stuff. Still a big club though cos it's do Maria, best player in the world innit

Mata is a great player, he is just working with crap players behind him for the most part. You sign the players you can get and who will improve your squad. If you can't get the CM that you want but a world class winger is available that you want, you buy the winger and get the CM later.

Keep it polite, disagree by all means but no namecalling. Thank you.

More signings to come. I think from a neutral point of view Vidal deal was on but questions were asked about the knee and that caused some doubt.

Do Maria is not the ideal player UTD need. But I agree it sends a statement and will attract other players and hopefully from a UTD point of view bring them back into the top 4 sooner rather than later. All be it this season or next.

Have to chuckle at this though

*signs 70 million euro attacking midfielder*

Trying to re-enact Keegan's Newcastle or something? :p

No need for petty insults guys.

Edit: Brian Swanson's tweeted that Real are demanding £75m for Di Maria. I know they know Utd are desperate but of true they're taking the mick.

Too much if true to be honest.

£60 million absolute tops.

75million + wages of say 200k + pw for a Player they dont need? Jesus H Christ, pants well and truly pulled down. Simple opinion, if others disagree fell free to counter ;)

edit: @shipinabottle, disagree about Iniesta. At his best he was playing central in a 3 man midfield alongside Xavi, albeit with more freedom to get forward. Di Maria's an out and out attacking mid/winger.

Say what you want Baz, every formation i've checked up, he's on the left handside of the midfield 3.

And every time i've seen him play he plays off the left handside of the box moving inwards and without doubt being dynamic across the box, as any fluid team these days are.

Anyway you look at as such, they are Attacking Midfielders, and as many have pointed out, Di Maria apparently played centrally this season, so he's covering both end of your arguements.

Irrespective of that, their job is the same, assist and contribute to goals. Raw data says they are very similar in these.

I'm not sure what you mean by left hand side of a midfield 3. Barca, at their peak had Busquets or Toure sitting and then Xavi and Iniesta just ahead in a fairly orthodox 4-3-3. Iniesta and Xavi orchestrated the play but it was the front 3 that were the main attacking threats.

At Real they generally played with 2 sitting and then 3 ahead of them behind the striker. Having 2 men sitting behind him gave Di Maria far more attacking freedom than a midfielder in a 4-3-3.

I would class Iniesta very much as a midfielder where as Di Maria IMO is a forward.

Tell us more about teams that overpay for players in a desperate attempt to break into the top 4?
