Apologies - my post has been misinterpreted, I meant a club likely to mount a serious title challenge and in Champions League - Real, Man C, Chelsea, Arsenal, FC Bayern etc.

What time is 'Arry expected to be filmed hanging out of his car window announcing Defoe is a "top, top, player"?

fixed , that's a more realistic list

I think Ed Woodward took the abuse to heart and is now just buying everyone that pops up. Surprised we don't have Vidal / Khedira / Carvalho all on a plane to Manchester at this rate.

Totally nuts.

If they're willing to do that, why wouldn't a club like Real act on their reported interest?

Perhaps they thought it was too pricey for them given their spending already this window. They have Benzema as the main man up front (with Ronaldo and Bale wide) so either Falcao or Benzema doesn't play. So an expensive substitute. When they can get Chicharito a lot cheaper they probably preferred that option overall.

A lot of places reporting now that the Falcao deal is a loan for a year and then permanent so probably that reason as well.

Obviously they're not doing that but as usual certain folk love to try and make a deal seem cheaper than it actually is.

Give over. I think you'll find most fans don't really care how much it costs as long as it isn't at the cost of medium to long term stability of the club. At the end of the day the Chief Exec knows a lot more about what United can and cannot afford than forum experts.

It's not football manager - I honestly couldn't care less if it cost £12m or £20m. I'm just going on what the majority of the footy journalists are reporting. Though of course Man Utd could be using a bit of poetic licence with regards to the cost as well while briefing.

Signing him on a permanent deal for any £30m+ is totally bonkers.

A £20-25m (including wages) season long loan deal is still a gamble given that he's just returning from a very serious injury but possibly a risk worth taking for a side that need a first choice striker (Liverpool pre Balotelli and Arsenal now).

For a side that already has 2 high profile strikers and are having to fudge their system just to fit them into the side, it just doesn't make sense.

If Utd don't come out of this window with a top CB and CM then you've got to wonder why. With the money they're spending on players they don't need they could have easily just paid whatever it took to get Hummels and Vidal.

I read that Juventus agreed a loan deal for Falcao but pulled out because Monaco were insisting on a guaranteed permanent deal at the end of the season.

Real wouldn't want to have Benzema and Falcao, 'cause one may have to be on the bench... but Manyoo want RVP/Rooney/Falcao, where it's basically impossible to play them all, and awkward playing two of them (given the rest of the squad). Okay.

You do realise Man Utd and Real Madrid are different clubs and have different views on what they do and don't want? Okay.
