Aren't you the guy who tried to call me out over di maria on Saturday and 10 mins later he got subbed off after crimping in a heap. He spent more time sat down during that 90 mins than most of our bench.

Maybe you should think before you try to cut your nose off to spite your face?

Thats the team based on who we have, not who we might have. I agree, without Strootman / Vidal Herrera is the natural choice in that role. He is quite a good tackler as well. Much better than Fletcher and Carrick.

It would but we wouldn't be using this formation to have a solid defence.

You wouldn't have a solid midfield either. Teams would have a field day.

Wouldn't work. RVP and Rooney aren't wide players and Mata can't play central mid in a 433 really without a ball winner / game reader.

It could work something 352 ish as:

Di Maria -- Herrera
----- Rooney -----
RVP ------ Falcao

Sorry Rusty, I bow to your superior knowledge :D

Yes DM we're aware that RVP and Rooney have played wide previously but that doesn't mean that the side would be balanced having them there or it would work. Square pegs in round holes and all that.

lol @ Rooney and pace

So when RVP was excellent wide for Arsenal, he was a square peg in a round hole? When Rooney was brilliant wide left for Utd, same thing?

Because RVP is good upfront, it means he can't be good in another position and playing him in another position would be a player not comfortable? That argument stands up to any scrutiny except..... oh wait, several years ago when RVP was moved to be a lone striker from his wide position you would surely have said the same "he's great wide, why would you play him as a lone striker, he can't do it, square peg round hole and all that. Hmm, I sense a flaw in that argument.

Utd were also woeful in the 08/09 year where Berbatov played upfront and Rooney frequently played as a wide forward... you, wait, were the last team to reach 90 points in the league, won the title, got to a champs league final(where you got pretty easily beaten when you dropped Berbatov and played fairly differently to how you had all year)..... well because Utd had their best season in recent history that year, it's proof that system was awful, absolutely and that Rooney was horrendous in that system when played wide.

Utd scored less than most champions that year, conceded less and got more points than anyone has since. They were very well balanced, deadly on the counter and because they were built to counter they could sit back more and be more defensively solid.

You don't have the midfield to tika taka your way through stubborn opposition, you do have the offence to counter well, and that will be even more true with Falcao on board. Sitting deeper which helps protect you defensively and softens the impact of a crap midfield(as you had in 08/09) as they won't get caught out so often nor offer as much space. It also frees up your offence with more space in behind the opposition.

Amazing, Di Maria was literally the only spark for us and you're ******** him off after 2 training sessions and 65 minutes.

UNBELIEVABLE JEFF!

As for the formations above, are people just forgetting we've bought Blind, he'll be our DM, that's his position, he can play elsewhere, but he's going to be in there with Herrera preferably.

DDG

Rafael--Jones--Blind--Rojo--Shaw

Di-Maria--Carrick

Rooney

RvP--Falcao

Possibly?

I know you'll say that Blind won't play CB, and I kind of agree. In that formation though, the middle centre back isn't truly a CB. He does the Gerrard/Busquets/Alonso role in taking the ball from the other two, and moving it forwards into the empty space in the middle of the pitch.

This came to mind (in a defensive formation) when Robbo linked to an article about Blind early on Sat I think

Blind driving the team forward from either a central CH/ DM position , I think he was being likened to Busquets where he isnt a traditional player of either and more a combination of both.

Not sure how it will work but MIGHT do well but its a huge job for a player relatively inexperienced.

Can you ever make a point without it being 1000 words? Do you understand what the word concise means?

Just because they did OK in a wide position doesn't mean that it's ideal or they wouldn't be better through the middle. Everybody from within football says that Rooney isn't great wide left. He isn't bad but it's by no means his best position. RVP similarly is far better as the #9.

I think the answer is pretty obvious. You fit them all in until one or more of them get ****** off then you decide which one or two perform better. No?

I was more pointing out other people moaning but...but...but where are you going to play them all WWWAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH.

I couldn't give a ****, it's a nice problem to have.
