Cardiff City received just over £62m in TV money this year, the lowest in the League. Last season Utd, who received the highest amount of TV money, received just under £61m.
Serious money is going to be spent this summer.
Most of the money gets earmarked for wage increases.
How much more is Arsenal paying out with seemingly at least 40k a week extra for Ramsey, new deal for Koscielny, likely about the same increase. Can't really remember who else got new deals this season. Ozil wages would have bumped up the wage spend at least 7mil, so that is at least 11mil increase across three players.
Rooney, seemingly 5mil, though they are losing a lot of players, expect most to be replaced with people on as much or more. Unlike frank who thinks every new player in automatically comes in at a fraction of the wages of players who have been at the club for ages, Neymar, Bale, Hazard, all suggest that is bull. Bale is on pretty similar to Ronaldo and Messi, Neymar got more than Messi(one of the longest serving players currently in football at the top), Hazard gets more than Lampard/Terry, etc.
Everyone is looking for new contracts and every single player in the league has an agent who looks through the figures and knows precisely what the club can afford. Each big increase in tv money causes a noticeable increase in wages across the squad, agents know how much money the team has and negotiates a new deal from a stronger position knowing what the club can afford.
Because teams don't like players on short contracts as it gives them more negotiating power to either force a move or get a better deal to prevent them walking for nothing, you're talking about a new deal every 2-3 years for most players.
I would expect, with 20mil extra, very little extra to be spent. those clubs that have a combination of 20-30mil extra tv money and a huge increase in sponsorship will likely spend more for a couple years till they to end up just spending the rest in extra wages.
Utd's sponsorship deal + tv money, the new players coming in are going to ask for silly wages and Rooney's deal being so high for frankly a not really top player is only going to hurt them. They are in as weak a position as you can be at the negotiating table, agents knowing they are a bit desperate plus having a huge influx of cash currently.
