lol, Fabregas not versatile, there isn't an attacking position he can't play. Defensively, when Song was our "DM" we had one season where Wilshere played behind him, brilliantly. We had another where Nasri played deep for 5-6 games behind Song and a huge portion of that season Fabregas played as deep/deeper than Song covering for him. He's one of the most versatile players out there, who works hard and reads the game brilliantly.

Same way lampard has been excellent defensively for Chelsea in the past few seasons when required, Fabregas has everything he needs to be great defensively also and has done so in the past.

I'd laugh if Barca forced him out, they seem focused on Iniesta/Xavi because they were both brilliant for 2-3 seasons at Barca's best, but neither player is anywhere near that level. Rather like Utd with Rooney and letting him play where he wants to rather than where is best for the team(he should play as a striker, NOT a player who drops deep), Barca are worse with Messi as a main striker, and during their very best seasons he wasn't. They had Eto'o then Ibra upfront in the seasons they played their absolute best football, and Villa after that though he played wide left more often than central as Messi basically decided to play centrally. He scored more but the team has been getting worse ever since.

Barca have always simply needed a proper striker playing the role properly, making the runs and being fed. Instead Messi plays there, drops deep and leaves the team no where to go.

Rather than moving on and making the changes the team needs, they seem focused on trying to put everything back the way it was 3-4 years ago... ignoring that the key keeper/defender have gone, the key central midfielders aren't remotely as good as they were, and they got shot of anyone who might possibly upstage or upset Messi.

The team they have now, with messi wide right again, finding one of Pedro/Sanchez/neymar to start centrally and see what works best, buying two cb's and a goal keeper and probably a right back and they'll be very very good again. While it's the "pass it to Messi or you'll get sold" show, they'll continue to struggle.

I was all for Liverpool signing Fabregas, but not so sure. He would essentially be a replacement/upgrade (possibly) to Coutinho in attacking sense, but I worry that he wouldnt be strong defensively when called upon. I'm also not sure whether he's as versatile as we need him to be.

Would rather Sanchez.

If you believe tony barret we've bid for both and also shaqiri, the guys becoming more and more full of **** though

I would love Fabregas at Chelsea. I don't think it's likely though, he probably hates Mou (as he's a Barca player), and I don't think he would come to London except for Arsenal.

Or he might think of how much he was loved at Arsenal by the club and return ;)

No harm in dreaming but probably city if I took a punt.

I thought RvP would stay at Arsenal for the same reason but if it's one thing I've learned there's very little sentimentality in football nowadays. I expect him to go to whoever offers the highest wages and can't see that being Arsenal.

I really think Chelsea is the most likely destination.

Ok, well both the Telegraph and Guardian are now running that Chelsea are interested and are currently the 'frontrunners'. Still not convinced myself, but as I said, I would love to have him at Chelsea, he's a great player.

Balague has confirmed all the Cesc reports and says he's being forced out. Arsenal don't want him back and there are no other offers at the moment. Man City seem to have ruled themselves out now too.

Sky Sports have just said Chelsea and Barcelona are both trying to sign Koke.

We need to at least make Fabregas an offer. :/
Go on Ed Woodward. Get in touch. Oh, right, yes. It's Ed Woodward. :(

Cesc is such a good player, and at 30m seems like a decent signing for any of the top sides. I'd personally cough up the extra 5m for Cesc over Lallana if I were Liverpool. He's only a year older and has proven himself in the PL before.

It wouldn't be just £5m though would it? It would probably be an extra £60-70k per week over 4-5 years and an extra £5-10m in signing on fees and agent fees. £5m suddenly becomes £25m more.

Good point, though I still think it could be worth it in the long run. It just depends if you can move forward after a terrific season, as Cesc's not someone who'll grind you out results if the whole team is struggling. His CL experience for example could be a major benefit over Lallana.

As I said earlier in a different way, Liverpool spemding £30m ( plus wages) on Fab just doesnt make sense when that money can go on strengthening their defence.

Not suggesting they cant afford both, but Fab should be way down their priority list

I assume next season Liverpool will have Martin Kelly, Enrique and Coates back?

So: Johnson, Kelly, Agger, Skrtel, Coates, Toure, Enrique, Flanagan, Sakho.

I think a decent CB and maybe another to cover l/r should do it.

Isn't that Sevilla player LB?
